It doesn't matter to me if it's 250 or 350, when I see it on the road I think it's just another normal car, that made by lexus. I don't say "wow" to it...

MkIII? Who owns a MkIII? To make what point? Your buddie's car? Where's yours? Here are mine, and yes, my name (not some mythical "buddy") is on the title for all three:

Sorry you don't like the fact that the Scion tC has similar performance numbers to your IS250, but it is fact, not fiction. The tC is only slightly faster than a base Civic/Corolla, but not much. We won't even talk about how a bone stock Civic Si will humble both the tC and the IS250.

Scion tC 0-60 7.8 seconds - quarter mile 15.7 @88.2 according to Sport Compact Car.

Lexus IS250 0-60 7.1 seconds - quarter mile 15.4 @ 90 mph.

Look at DragTimes:

Scion tC

The lone IS250 posted

Notice the times? Stock(ish) tCs run ~15.5. Our lone IS250 runs a 15.4. Thats ONE car length for a third more money with less rear seat leg room. Get real. The IS250 is a slow car. It's on pace with the vast majority of pure economy cars for quickness. Even the Camry is quicker and faster.

that having been said, at least on apaper a lexus costing that much should have at least 30 more hp.

i have a 250 because i wanted awd, and in everyday driving it is fine, since i usually stay close to the speed limit and rarely exceed 3k rpm
I'll comment on this, and the transmission issue, and the guy who said the 350 is the same, but stroked and bored out.

The throttle response in the IS250 is no good. The first 30% does not generate enough to pull away from a red light without slowing people up (at least, not here in Texas). It feels like when an intake plenum is too large, causing a delay between throttle opening and power delivery.

As far as I know, the transmissions are identical (similar engine speeds at similar vehicle speeds). Which means the point is moot.

There's a large number of differences that went into development of the 2GR-FSE, mostly with respect to making the dual port-/direct-injection work as well as it does. Denso and Toyota filed for a number of patents, down to the piston crown shape, engine control systems, etc. Yes, they're both based on GR-series blocks. But they're no more alike than the 1UR we put in a Tundra (or a new LX 570) and the 3UR in the GS 460.

I'm not trying to rag on people's purchasing choices. I don't care why you made the decision you did, as long as you're happy with it. As I've said before, my first intention was to purchase a GS350. I think it looks waaaay better. But I drove it and the IS back-to-back, and the IS just felt that much more visceral. I like to describe the IS 350 kind of like a small bouncer: it doesn't look all that intimidating until he grabs the 6-6 250 pounder by the collar and whips him out the door.

Too be perfectly honest I don't really care about performance stats,if that was the only factor I would have kept my is300 and boosted the **** out of it,I won't post on this forum anymore with mods like you around, who needs the agravation, any way you like calling guys out on fake buddies cars get a life outside of your computer.

Sorry you're all hurt about it. You said I have a MkIII. I don't. You said "your buddy's car" will prove something to my MkIII. That's as lame as it gets short of my dad's Ferrari will kick your butt. I showed you what I have, and you still don't get what the OP's point is: the 250 is a slow car. It's not bad, it's not good, it's just slow. Be happy you're driving a Lexus and call it a day. I chose a different path because I knew I would not be happy on your path - the same as when I drove an NA Supra after the ex-wife drove my first TT into a wall and totaled it. Once you've had the tiger, it's not a lot of fun playing with the kitten.

The is250 is fine if you're a chick or a guy who really sincerely doesn't care about speed. It's smooth, quiet, luxurious, and kinda sporty looking but no grunt to back up the looks. It's great to cruise around in and the cheapest model of lexus so that you can tell your friends that you got a new LEXUS. But that's all it is, a nice quiet car with just barely enough power to merge into freeway traffic. Yes you can get other cars much faster than a 350 of course but you'll be hard pressed to find one that's as well balanced in luxury, POWER, reliability, and prestige for the price.

Every part of that statement is false. A 250 is not $60,000, not even in Canada. Also 60.000 CDN is not 65,000 USD... the exchange rate is 1.07 per US dollar.

Well some of you would have a fit in Europe. You can not only get a I-4 BMW 320 but a 520 as well!!

Lexus did the right thing offering the 250. A lot of people simply don't care about speed. The IS 250 offers everything the 350 has except the engine.

True luxury marques do it.
Audi A4 base has FWD and an I-4
Benz has the C280
BMW has the 328

I mean, does the 140k Benz S 600 owner frown upon the 85k S 550 owner?

People value different things in a car, thus the more choice the better. You don't want choice, buy a TSX, TL or G35. One engine.

This debate is sort of pointless. Both are great cars. I chose the IS250 for one main reason: Fuel mileage. So far, I've been impressed.

ISICKLEX nailed it on the head.

Why is it kids have to justify everything they have by putting down whatever someone else has. The interesting part to those of us who are 'senior citizens' is that we know how they think cause we did it ourselves. We also know that nonsense will go away with age for 99% of them as they get older.

Because someone bought a IS250 does 'not the f..k' mean they can't afford a IS350...........be it hard to understand.......as has been said here way to much already.......it's not all about speed. To say a car that goes from 0 - 60 in a little over 7 seconds and does a quarter mile at 90 MPH is slow is just stupid and a little childish .

Hey Cowboy............the space shuttle makes your IS350 look like a Modet T. Get the point yet?

It's time to move on here

the only reason I posted in this thread is because of all the 250 hate,I have been driving lexus since 1996 this is my third,to be honest in canada we get raped for most material things,I come from the school put your money into appreciating assets, not depreciating the cost difference in canada is huge between 250 to 350 not worth 1.5 seconds faster 0-60 and 1.5 seconds in quarter mile,I'm 30 years old I own my own home and a couple of investment properties,I wish to become financially stable so when I reach 50 I will have zero financial worries,so for me the 250 was a better financial decision.my wifes 335 stock to stock will be just as fast if not faster than a 350.by the way "lob" the deeds are all in my name too.just remember I'm not an old man

After my last post, I thought about this point. The IS250 is Lexus' new entry level car (just like the 3 series with the little engine...which is everywhere). And among the non-performance oriented crowd, they're selling like hotcakes. Its cheaper than the 328, and you get the unrivaled Lexus quality.
