Default navi acting a lil weird...help please

I had a little incident yesterday at a stop light, referring to it as me rear ending someone is somewhat of an over statement…more like me bumping into someone….but I guess that’s what u would call it anyway….there is absolutely no damage on either car, apart from 2-3 tiny paint chips on my front bumper…about the size of a pen tip. Everything seemed perfectly fine on my drive home, but later that day I noticed my navi was acting a little “stupid”. It jumped a few times…and it had me going diagonal down a street….I have it where up is the path that I am traveling. On a straight road the road should be vertical, but it wasn’t it was diagonal…just enough for me to notice. Is it possible that there was damage to any navi components (any that may be in the bumper….I not sure exactly how the navi works). And is it possible that it will fix it self as I drive around… thanks in advance

Exactly, TSIB EL013-06, they will replace your map disc with an updated version that has new software for the navigation system.

Prior to that software update (that came at the very end of the '06 model year), the cars did a terrible job of locking on the GPS satellites, and relied on dead reckoning using speed sensors and a gyroscope much of the time. Your gyro was probably knocked a bit off kilter when you tapped that car, which is why you are seeing the problem now.

^yes, you don't want to rely 100% on gps to guide your car around town. that won't work. just like you wouldn't want your airplane to take-off, fly, and land using gps only.

Just give them the attached TSIB and tell them to do it. It's not an '07 disc, just an upgrade on the '06 disc that fixes the problem. They'll have to order it, so you might want to call them and have them order it. That way you won't waste a trip going to the dealer twice.

My 07 RX350 had the 5.1 nav. After several months of working properly, the nav had a TIA and started to put me in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. When the dealership did the nav disc TSIB, I was not satisfied as it was still a version of the 5.1. I then went to the service manager, and upon my "request", they installed the 6.1 nav disc. No problems since and I am no longer driving with the fish.
