Yeah, what is with that they consider the Turanza a "Grand Touring Tire" or something like that. I wonder if it does not perform as well as the RE050 which is also slightly cheaper...? A lot of manufacturers seem to be using that tire right now, BMW (albeit RFT), Infiniti, Nissan, and as you mentioned some of the other high-end makes.

But I have the Max Performance Eagle F1 GS-D3s. Since it doesn't snow, I would recommend these. You don't need All-Seasons. In the rain, these things grip really, really well. I'd be doing about 45-50 in a 25 corner in the rain (relatively heavy) and I'm not losing any grip. Car and Driver did a test on these a while back and it got the best rating out of a lot of tires: http://www.caranddriver.com/features...ad-page13.html
I got mine from WheelWorks for around $950, I believe. They pricematch Tire Rack if you bring in a printout of the shopping cart.
Typically less treadwear means less grip. That's because the rubber is less soft and less sticky, so it won't shed as much during driving. IMHO, I think it's better to have great grip over saving money... but it's a personal safety preference.

RE050A PP. Treadwear be damned, they perform.

I have RE960AS Pole Position and love them in every way. My *only* complaint, is that I still hear too much noise through the front wheel wells, it was a huge reduction in sound from the stock dunlops, but its still enough to annoy me if driving silent on a rough road (doesn't happen often). Considering just dynomatting under the carpet area on the front wheel wells.

I recently put on a set of Michelin PS2 A/S to handle our occasional winter weather.
I had the Bridgestones RE050 and find these to be much quieter
and grip just as well. Got them at Tirerack for <$1100.
Very pleased

I have some Michelin Pilot A/S I am putting on the car this weekend. My bridgestones have 32k miles on them and are TOO loud. I got the set for right at $900, so.. I'll let you guys know how the ride is.

My 2007 IS350 came with Bridgestone Turanza ER33s. They're total POS "grand touring" tires, whatever that's worth. They're actually fairly quiet, but the performance is utter ****e I'm trying to wear them out too so I can get new ones but like FiveOhNine said, I hate to waste the tires.. Even so, I'll be damned if I can't drive my 300hp car the way it was meant to be driven In the extreme tight and twisties, my buddy's 175hp SE-R Spec V can pull away from me, that's just pathetic. It's mostly down to the tires (well, a little bit due to the weight, but there's not much I can do about that). I'm sure the suspension is a factor also, but the tires are just killing me..
I'm getting winter tires put on this weekend (blizzak LM-25s) but come next summer, I'm going to burn some rubber as quickly as I can so I can get some RE050As, most likely the Pole Positions.
