Help To Keep Them On Their Toes
Hey guys. As most of you know I have been told that my special order car will be arriving in December. I was told that the beginning of November. I called last week to see if they had any specifics. They didn't have any yet and told me that they would call me as soon as they knew anything. I have a confirmation number that they gave me in October.
When can I expect more information for a December delivery and what would that information be (on the boat, in port, delivery)?

Sounds like you've really been given the run-around with your order, which is too bad. When I ordered my car, the dealer showed me a paper that listed the date the car would be arriving at the port. In my case, the car came through the Portland port. The time from the port to the local dealer varies (unloading, customs, transit), but for me it took about 1 week. From what I've seen, the dealer should know the exact date the car arrives in port.

As soon as the car gets loaded on the boat and leaves Japan... the information is routed to Lexus Corporate and then to each actual dealership...
You should know anywhere from 1-3 weeks as to when the car will "land" at port and when it will arrive at the dealership..
Example: I knew that on 9/3/07 my car was on the ship and that it would arrive at the Port of Long beach by 9/10/07..
On 9/12/07 my car arrived at the dealership in the evening..
I picked it up less than 24hrs later in the afternoon on 9/13/07..

Well as soon as the car is on the boat they should give you call. That is what the stealer did for my speical order. You should also ask for the VIN# once it is on the boat and then you will have to wait like 2 weeks for the car to get here.

FYI it also has to do with the date you special order.
Unless Lexus has changed their policy recently I think I remember:
Lexus corporate only accepts orders on or around the 20th/21st of each month so........since it takes about 90 days for a special order and let's say (for example) you placed your order on October 5th, the clock doesn't start ticking until the 21st.
Plus you have to factor in holidays, the ports are union workers so this may delay your car's arrival.
Since you ordered your car in October, I would guess you're looking at around late January?
I strongly suggest you contact the sales manager or general sales manager to get a straight answer on when your car is coming. Don't talk to the salesperson because they are usually more clueless than you are about when your car is coming.
Good luck and keep us posted.

Paul - how did you know!!??
Liz is right...
If your order was accepted approx 10/19/07, you are looking at approx 3 months..
My order went in on 6/20 and I got my car 2 months & 3 weeks later on 9/13, and that was a West Coast delivery.
But my Special Order was right in the middle of the 07-08 change over..
So I would say anywhere from 2-3 months or 12/20-1/20 is when you will get your IS..
Your dealer won't know where the car is in process, until it hits the boat / Lexus / master VIN manifest..

Asian Girl, my original order was placed in May and it has been a mess. If you want to cry, read these threads.

It's been a mess, but now my order has been placed by the district manager. I thing that you may be right about the January thing. I'm going to give them another call to see what's up.
Joe, they did say that were waiting to see it on one of their next lists.

At least you went straight to the "source" and the Lexus district manager ordered your car.
Are you going to lease or finance? If so, tell them you want the "December to Remember" lower rates kept for you IF YOUR CAR COMES IN JANUARY.
