Default Fastest stock IS350 today!!!

Hey guys, I had my final runs today at Great Lakes Dragaway. 37 degrees, 30.2 mm Hg, 626' elevation, 64% humidity, 11 mph SW wind (track is due North).

Stock IS350 premium (no luxury package, no nav, no sport) with 18" rims and tires. Stock Dunlop Sportmaxx with 36 PSI rear and started at 1/4 tank and finished the runs at 12 miles to empty. The ONLY thing I took out that was there when I bought the car was the owners manual and the cargo net. So, essentially showroom stock.

Anyways, my best run was.... drum rolll.... 13.228!!!

I have some interesting hypothesis to run by you guys... A lot of my 60' times were sub 1.93xxx today. Why am I launching so good? I think it might have to do with my car being a standard suspension - not the sport. So, I get more weight transfer to the rear. In addition, my car's rear tires are wearing thinner and thinner - 5/32" tread left so less and less rotational mass.

Even though I weigh 190lbs, the premium edition weighs a couple of pounds less than luxury - no tilt/telescopic steering, no rear shade, no HID, no illuminated scuff plates. Not much, but all that stuff is probably at least 20 pounds?

Most important factor was the temperature. I've never ran in negative DA before but today, I believe I was -800 -900 DA so that would definitely help - my previous best was at +300 or so.

Anyways, keep reading... I'll post all 16 timeslips in a moment and show which ones were ECT power on or off and my launch technique.

Yes, the spare and jack and all rugs are in. It is completely STOCK - the ONLY thing taken out was the cargo net (I hate it so I usually don't have it) and the owners manual (I figured 1 pound lighter would help). LOL But I kept the first aid kit in (I might need it you know).

Here are all the results of my runs. I skipped my first run cuz I totally spun out and had a 3.0 60' time.

2.019 1.967 2.013 1.933 1.952 1.924 1.940 1.933 1.921
13.303 13.276 13.339 13.253 13.236 13.232 13.228 13.242 13.230
104.76 104.94 104.31 104.72 104.76 104.72 105.01 104.95 105.05

1.914 1.926 1.973 1.941 1.993
13.234 13.248 13.296 13.242 13.382
104.55 104.72 104.85 104.74 104.17

The last 4 runs were no brake launching because I wanted to compare ect power with ect power off. The very last run shouldn't count cuz I was on idle for a LONG time.

Based on guess, statistics and feel, there is no power difference between ECT power on or off. There is also a VERY slight improvement in 60' times by brake torqueing just a touch - maybe a couple hundredth of a second.

I think my first few runs started slow cuz tire wasn't up to temp. I was generally starting to run faster and faster until I started experimenting on my last 4 runs. I could have run more, but 12 miles to empty and my house is 40 miles away. LOL

Next year....

Honestly? I don't think so... your best ET and my ET have almost 2/10 in the 60' alone. In addition, I just found out the DA was like -1100 feet today! I bet you could do the EXACT same under the same conditions! That's what makes the IS350 such an awesome car.

Unlike you and Caymandiver, my wife wants NO part of drag racing... LOL So, yes, I have one video - on my cell phone that I kept on during 1 run. If you really must see the REALLY CRAPPY video, I'll upload it and post a link. BUT, don't blame me for the sucky resolution, quality, etc. It's hard to race while holding a phone you know.

Very nice runs ToothDoc! You had an excellent day for making power with a -1110ft and a 12mph tail wind. 60' Times are just amazing for stock tires!! Seriously i'm impressed.

flamesuit on....

http://home.comcast.net/~youngsongdmd/bestet.3gp

about all you can hear is the burn out at around the 20 second mark - I rev it to redline for about a second. Too bad you can't see the slip... but I happen to record my best ET run today.

Young, we should meet at the track next year. I'll talk my wife into going again but this time we'll have a better camera.

Looks like today was a good day for the IS350. Both Caymandive and ToothDoc set records.

Now.... do we keep trying to improve or are we happy with what we have?
