Generally as the value of the car goes down, the insurance goes down.

Why don't you ask the insurance companies you call that question (tell them you're interested in a 2006 vs a 2008)

Or go to the online estimation sites like progressive, etc. and do it for the two different cars to see the difference

I would have thought this, but it wasn't the case for me. I have two cars and the other is a 97 Dodge Grand Caravan. My Lexus insurance is less than that of the van. I was quite shocked to discover how inexpensive my 2008 IS-350 was to insure.

Of course I told them I'd be driving less than 10k miles per year and I'm sure that helped a lot.

The liability insurance shouldn't necessarily be dependend on the value of the car. An expensive car wouldn't seem to be more likely to cause damage to others than a less expensive car. In fact, it may be considered less of a risk due to the safety factor. Collision and comprehensive are another matter.

I have a semi bad driving record living in overcrowded new jersey and I pay $4,200 a year.

the difference between a is350 and is250 is about a few hundred a year... I own an IS350... have one accident... $5600... but then again my residencies are in anaheim hills (located in orange county) and numerous cities over the bay area so its highly populated...

as stated above.. it depends on your driving record. most companies will lower your annual premium once you turn 25 automatically.

here my scenerio... hope u get an idea. i got the is350 when i was 24 w/ 2 points on my record. i was payin 4800 a year. then i turned 25 w/ 2 points still on my record.. it dropped down to 3200 a year. if i keep a clean record until march 08' than my 2 points drop and my annual premium will drop down to 2100. this is with AAA.. im sure u can find some cheaper companies out there.
