Insurance
You can change your coverage at any time. If you change after you have paid a 6 month premium for a higher level of insurance, your company will refund the difference. If you have title there would be no limitation on eliminating collission and or comprehensive.

I got the lowest rate from Unitrin Direct. Going to switch probably tomorrow. 800/6 months as opposed to 1400 from most others w/ the same coverage. I'm sure I'm giving up something, but geeze. 1400/6 months is just nuts

I still haven't purchased the car though.

Defensive Driving Calss
I don't know if this is going to help everyone but you can take a defensive driving class and get a discount on your policy with progressive. I'm getting a $60 discount after taking the defensive driving class. I didn't have to take the class because of a ticket or anything, I have a great driving record. I just took it because of the discount that applies on my insurance for the next 3 years or $60 every six months, it adds up.
The class cost me $29, and you can take it online.
Anyways, I have all full coverage with upgraded limits, rental reimbursement, with a deductible of 250, and I'm paying $820 for 6 months.

This thread got me real nervous reading it (still haven't switched over coverage to the new car, apparently I have 30 days), so I just called up State Farm:
2007 IS350: $390/6 months, 25, married, Chicago suburbs, clean driving record, homeowner policy discount, $1000 deductible.

2007 IS 350: My fiance pays $680/6 mo, 28 single, clean driving record (so far), homeowner policy (but no discount), $500 deductible. My agent said when we get married, the rate will go down about $100 as long as we don't develop a lead foot by then.

I'm 30, clean record and I pay $516/6 months, full coverage, high coverage limits (not the cheaper state minimum) w/ tow coverage and 500 collision 250 comp deductables. That's through USAA. That being said, the Lexus is high to insure. (State Farm wanted $780/6 months for my IS350 and to compare they were going to charge me $660/6 months for a 2003 Dodge Viper I was considering buying.)

It depends entirely on where you live, what your record looks like, what insurance company you're using, how old you are, etc. etc. The list goes on an on.
My insurance went DOWN compared to what I was paying for my WRX, a car that cost $11k less than the IS350. But of course the WRX is probably lumped into some "men 18-25 like this car and get lots of tickets" bracket.

why's IS so expensive to insure? does it have problems, is it less safe, what's the insurance companies take on it?
