Painted Engine Cover Thread (merged threads)

Decided to paint mine this weekend, don't have a good feeling about the 3M di-noc stuff though. I don't think it's going to last long under the hood because it doesn't take much heat.

Has anyone experienced any cracking or other issues with painting their engine cover? Just got off the phone with my Lexus body shop and he said it would be no problem to paint the engine cover the same color and paint as my car but he doesn't know how it would stand up to the heat. Your help would be much appreciated.

If the plastic can take the heat, your automotive paint will take the heat. Steel hoods painted black sitting in the sun gets WAY hotter than that plastic and the paint holds up. Will be fine dude.

Paint holds up pretty well.. but over the years, you will notice the wear and tear. I still have my painted covers from 07 and you can definately tell its taken its toll over the years.

I've had my engine covers painted for about 2 months now and it looks just like the day I painted them. The only problem is remembering to apply masking tape when removing the clips...I already have one chip
