Question for those with custom painted engine covers. What kinda "prep work" is involved in this? Sanding, primer, etc...? Thanks in advance.

You pretty much got it. But my shop did sanding, primer, painting, polished

Sanded the center cover for a glossier "sheen" and left the outter covers textured then applied paint to all
