If you don't have iTunes setup to encode in MP3, then you need to re-encode it or else the mp3 disc you just burned won't play in your deck. It will be a AAC or a mp4u or something.
You can also burn it as an ISO or data disk as long as the files are mp3 extensions.

Because it's not designed to read that format off DVD. From DVD it'll read DVD-A and DVD movies. There's a tricky way to burn MP3s to look like a DVD movie that someone posted a couple weeks ago, but you don't end up with much in the way of organization or ability to find the song you're looking for... don't think it'll do things like random or anything else either but not sure of the details.... a quick search should find it if you're interested.

Needs the nav hack to work in motion, no playlists, no random, and each disc takes 4 hours or so to burn...
It almost makes me curious to see what'd happen if I swapped a DVD changer into my ML w/out nav setup.. but the ipod still holds massively more music and can do random and playlists
