Default "So how often do you..." got me to thinking...

So... I truly appreciate fast cars and would love to have a 350, but for my purposes it just doesn't make sense. However I pound my 250 every now and then. There are a few curvy/banked entrances ramps in town that I like to play on. I also love to use the ECT PWR button to get a little edge sometimes and really dig it.

I'm a little green on this though... maybe because I'm a woman and didn't grow up working under the hood, but is it really okay to step on it often? My first car was a 4 "hampster" Civic and when I floored it... well it grunted and sounded like it might fly apart. I know my current 250 is built to much different standards and my Bimmer buddy always tells me to "stretch its legs" every now and then, but how far can I go? I guess I just don't feel comfortable pushing the limits every time I drive though it is fun.

Should I be so concerned? Will I ever break it pounding it to the floor?

I have a 250AT, floor it at least once a day. Not a big deal as far as I can tell. I don't think "stretching its legs" really applies here, but I doubt you're doing much harm provided you follow the maintenance schedule (unless you're planning on taking it to a million miles).

I own a IS350... I floor it whenever I go on the freeways and ocassionally to pass people (probably hit the redline 12-15 times a day)...I also take turns at what most people call ridiculously fast speeds when I have the opporunity (no or little traffic around) and the weather is temperate. Just follow the proper maintainence schedules and you should be fine...after all its a lexus... one of the most reliable cars... unlike some german ones like bmw...performance great thing, but when you are stuck on the middle of the road with your emergency lights on thats just stucks (saw 4 bmws broken down on the road in my 12 mile drive today)

You can take it all the way to the rev limiter without any damage. Do it as often as you like. Just make sure you
1. keep a sufficient oil level.
2. NEVER do it when it's cold.

for some people, they are exactly that bad...and worse, even when very well cared for.

I have the manual transmission and hit at least 5500 rpm's just about everytime i go for a ride. I never red line it; but i drive it to high rpm's without worry.

I floor it quite a bit, however I usually try to avoid flooing it if all possible while the engine is still warming up.

Thanks... I feel better now. Guess I won't break it. I do follow all the regular maintenance, and don't mind burning a little gas every now and then. I think those of us driving these cars feel comfortable paying for the gas anyway.
