Here's a couple of pics of the seat. I actually have more room to move my seat than I did with an infant carrier.

Side curtain air bags are very dangerous for little ones. I suggest you move your car seat into the middle. It sucks that you lose the ability to carry anyone else in the back, but that's the price of safety.

I don't think that side curtain ABs inflate with the same force as front ABs or side (seat) ABs. If they did, there would be warnings everywhere. The current generation of the front and side ABs disable if they sense someone in the front seat that doesn't weigh a certain amount, or of someone is leaning on the side seat bolster. There's no such system for the rear seat, and even minivans and SUVs have 2nd and 3rd row ABs--and that's where the kids are supposed to sit.

However, it is definitely safer in the middle, just because the seat is further away from any side impact.

I did consider this, and because of the design of the seat there is no need to move it to the middle. The deep side-bolsters of this particular seat prevents any injury from side air-bags [per Recaro]; and the fact that the side curtain inflation area into the compartment is very narrow. So, this location does not pose a danger in regards to side-airbag inflation. The only danger to a child during inflation is if the child is leaning directly on the door panel - and if I'm not mistaken the side-air bags will not inflate in this case...? I could be wrong here thought.

But you are correct, the best place for a child is in the middle of a vehicle, but I have the same Recaro seat on the other side for my 4 yr old as well - so that's not an option for me.

I was happy to officially be out of the full sized kids car seats. Now I just have the "booster" type seats for both my kids. Makes it easy to take them in and out of the car for work lunch's.

BTW... Did you guys know that having car seats like that in your car gives you a 1000X higher chance of getting off speeding tickets (for minor 10mph type tickets) at the time when the copper comes to your window. I swear to you I have gotten off many tickets now because of my chairs and the ONE time put them in the trunk (that very day for lunch) I got pulled over and got a ticket. No kidding man, I’m not joking.
