Default Ford wrench for oil filter

Did my first oil change on the IS350.

Just FYI, a 15" Ford Wrench works perfect on the oil filter housing.

They are also great wrenches for just about everything.

Just my $.02

Uh, not a pipe wrench guys.

1) A pipe wrench usually has serrated jaws.
2) A pipe wrench usually has a flexing jaw for bite.

It is a Ford Wrench. Smooth, precise jaws. Will not marr the metal.

The reason its called a Ford wrench? It's the tool that came installed on every Model A Ford.

Very interesting but I'd still call it a pipe wrench.

I hated the damn cup wrench they wanted us to use (it slipped on my filter faaaar too much), so I bought an oil filter wrench from sears. I grip the two 180degree flanges, and I'm set.

Are you wrapping a rag or anything around the canister to prevent it from scratching up?

Tried this with something similar and was slipping a lot... I ended up just buying the SST from the dealer.

What cup wrench were you using? The stamped metal "type F" slips like crazy. An inexpensive plastic one from the local auto parts place worked fine for a couple of changes, then broke during use. I'm currently using the Assenmacher Specialty Tools TOY640 wrench and I'm very happy with it. Made of cast metal, doesn't slip, and doesn't mar the filter housing.

I just used some big plyers (sp?) and wrapped the canister with a rag so it wouldnt scratch.

I think spending $50 bucks on the Toyota Tool is a bit much. When plyers can do the job.

Assenmacher model TOY640 oil filter cap/wrench.
A search and you'll find it for under $15.
A quality piece.

I too picked up an actual SST -> Special Service Tool from the Lexus Dealership today. The part number is different than what JOEZ posted, but still works.

Part # 09228 06500 02
It is definitely worth the $30!!

I use the Assenmacher model TOY640 oil filter cap/wrench model. It works great except sometimes the cap gets stuck to the oil filter cover. No biggie, just knock the side with a wrench and it becomes loose again.
