I noticed that my foot was still on the gas and the tach was heading towards redline, but it must just put the trans in to neutral or something? I put it back in drive and everything was just fine. I was going to say something to her at the time, but I quickly came to my senses and realized, if you say something about this, you ain't ever going to get road head again ( I believe I made the right decision by keeping my mouth shut )
hahahahahahaha. You made the right choice

Ok, now the real question is, what would happen if you shifted into reverse going slower than 20 but more than 0, say, 15 MPH?

Since I have my car in for service I have a loaner GS on hand and said better the dealer's car than mine to try it... stuck it in reverse and the back up camera did come up just like combfilter's video showed.

You guys think there is a forward speed where it will actually shift into reverse? 5 mph? Say you're going 30 mph, pop it into reverse and let it roll in neutral (gear shift actually in reverse) until it slowed down to like 5 mph forward- do you think it would try to go into reverse then?

soo this reminds me (and Im so glad that I have an IS now) of this time that I was driving my grandmas 1992 camry and reached up to change a cd and somehow ended up knocking the car in reverse.... the whole car shut off and I lost power to the steering and brakes and had to stomp on the brakes and try and keep the car in the road until it stopped. I ended up with half the car off the road but managed to get it stopped. that was a little scary...anyhow, this is def not recommended in a 92 camry! lol

Out of curiosity today I was going about 10mph in my neighborhood and the shift lever easily went into R and the backup cam came on. It's pretty darn weird to do this, but we can venture to say this does no harm to the car.

You know those cars that come flying up on you while already driving 10-15+ over the limit and expecting you to suddenly move over by flashing high beams and driving so close you can't even see the front of their car.

I guess I am a tad nuts! haha I'm also one of those guys that hits the brakes when someone is on my ****.

No caymandive you are one of those people that doesn't realize the left lane is for passing only. Regardless of speed, if someone behind you is going faster than you, move over. (man I wish american drivers had as much road manners as german autobahn drivers do).

Caymandive, your car might be faster than the 12.8x you ran. I think the driver might be limiting that.

hahaha joking dude.

Yulp. Just as dumb as the last dude...It works.
I was going 50, I figured it had to have some sort of reverse lock out.
Then I did it again at about 30-35...It is a very weird sensation, kinda like standing on the cliff before you jump, you just take a deep breath and say
F' it...
Then you feel like your going to run off the road because your stairing dead at the screen ...but no drama.
That's the last time I'll do it. Really no use. But still a cool trick.
I would like to see what goes on inside the trans when this happens.
And I have a feeling that doing this at low speeds, 10 -15 would be different.

Yeah I know what you mean, but when I am in the process of passing cars that are in the right lane doing at or below the speed limit, the idiot that comes flying up on me and expecting me to move into that slow lane while i'm trying to pass has another thing coming. Aside from being cut off, this is my biggest driver complaint and I don't have much patience for it.

If you want the backup camera to come on while driving forward, install a switch. I believe I've seen a how-to in the searchable archives.
Dang the 2007 Darwins were released and I didn't make the list
