That's exactly what I am saying. The sales tax on my lease is 8.625% of $450 * 36 months, which comes out to about $1400. The other fees (bank, DMV, tire, etc), are not taxed. So, I am paying $1400 + those other fees upfront. I can certainly roll the sales tax in to the monthly payment, but that would mean getting hit with the financing terms of the lease. I think we are both saying the same thing, we just got out of sync for a moment!

In NJ I am sure you can pay the tax up front if you want, right?

Could be but I know it's a relatively small amount but if the car is totalled or stolen after a few months or year, paying that tax upfront is lost unless you get it back somehow.

anyway,it seems you got a nice deal.

Oh, I was in that situation a few year ago. I had a 2005 Honda Accord, leased it brand new, and after driving it for only 1 month it got totalled; rear-ended on the highway. Anyway, Geico reimbursed me for the sales tax I paid up front in that deal including all other expenses except for the first monthl payment. Geico is good like that

Based on simply the sales STICKER price of your car, which is basically the same as my IS350 w/ no options, you got a better deal than I did. I bought mine right after they came out though so they weren't dropping the prices of the cars much if at all. I pay 600/36month 15kmiles/yr. I paid nothing down except first month - no fees, no nothin'. When you crunch the numbers, you are saving about $20 a month compared to me after your fees and accounting for the miles a 15cents/mile. Not too bad, but not great. I drive 350 w/out options. Gonna try for another one w/ xenon lights and rims for the same price/month next.
