15K Service...$295??

Beside doing just a regular oil change, they also replace the differential fluid, which is the 80W90 gear oil. They also supposely added some kind of fuel treatment which is hard to believe more than the same stuff you get over the counter in the auto store.

All the "sheep" willing to pay $295 for a 15K oil change, THANK YOU. I really enjoy the Fiji water, the fresh bagels, and edible delights fruits that my local dealership brings in. Someone has to pay for it and obviously you guys are.
Unless the manual says specifically to do it, why would you do it. Probably what they are doing at 15K is a coolant flush, transmission flush, etc. etc. The manual does not say to do it, even doing it at 15K is not "preventative" maintainence, it's "preventative" saving money. The theory that just because you didn't pay $300 at 15K that they won't honor a warranty is unfounded. If you do all listed items in the warranty book, they can't deny anything. It's not like, you forgot to change the oil in the car, so the suspension warranty is voided too. They can only void the warranty if they can prove that specific part broke because you didn't do maintaince and if you go with the manual, they can't say anything.
Go in to the dealership, ask for an oil change only. Go to the local Toyota dealer or order the cabin filter online. The engine filter does not need replacing until 30K according to the manual. Even the sticker on the coolant says that it doesn't need replace for 60K+ miles, I forget the exact number, why would you change it anytime before that at either 15K service or 30K. Now let others pay for the expensive food and drinks instead.

I am with this guy.....they will never say, uhmm, sir, you did not change your cabin air filter, you now have a blown head gasket, we will not repiar under warranty....I would also add, doing extra uncalled for stuff only adds risk to inadvertent damage at the stealership.....

^^^I agree with you guys and try to only do what is called for in the manual. Unfortunately, I've run into problems at the dealerships of my "high end cars" where they are willing to do just what is in the manual, but for the same price as the regular service.

I'm sorry but $300 for basically an engine/gear oil change is ridiculous. I do it myself and use 100K mile gear oil and engine oil that should last one year.

how is it that BMW is able to provide its customer 0 maintanance on there cars under warranty? Is it because the break more often. Lexus should consider that option.. Well our cars are more dependable almost bulletproof.

nope not until 60k according to the manual. i think the dealerships are just trying to get extra money for these checks that take them a few seconds to do. labor does not cost that much!

In a couple of weeks,I'll be doing a diff change with Amsoil 80w90 and leave that in for at least 30K miles.
Doing a trans fluid change at 25K miles with Toyota WS fluid.Amsoil doesn't make a copmpatible trans fluid for WS yet.

believe it not, the primary reason why most people go to the dealership for service is NOT to avoid problems/disputes come warranty coverage time. if that were true, you guys would have a point. but that simply isn't the reason why i go to the dealership for repairs and maintenance. ymmv

The trans fluid does NOT need to be changed! Don't waste your money! The Toyota WS synthetic fluid is a lifetime fluid. Even if you were towing this fluid is expected to last the life of the vehicle. This set-up has been used for several years on other Toyota vehicles and it has proved to work as advertised.

Interesting.
It's hard to believe just about lifetime anything but in this case maybe you're right.
