Default 15K Service...$295??

How much are you guys paying for your 15K service? We were quoted a price of $295 from Lexus of Valencia, which seems abnormally high. According to the maintenance calculator on Edmunds, the service should be $172.62 before taxes. WTF?

Welcome to the world of "premium" car care. Did they itemize the $295? Is your Edmunds calculation region-specific? Is it that much more than the same service on a comparable Audi, Benz, Acura or Infiniti in your local area? BMW "includes" service but your just paying that up front.

I fully expected my service costs to rise subsantially when I went with a Lexus named automobile. If I had the option, I'd take my car to a Toyota dealership for service. The local Lexus and Toyota dealerships, however, are owned by the same guy; and there's a policy against cross-servicing .

The dealership didn't itemize the $295, but I'm sure they will if I ask. The Edmunds calculation is region-specific and itemized (see info below), which is why I was floored when the dealer cost was so much higher.

Fortunately, my Audi has full maintenance covered under the manufacturers warranty.

I don't mind paying for service, but I do mind getting ripped off.

do you have to go to valencia? did you get quotes from other dealerships?

and i think we can "opt-out" on some of the services. someone should be piping in on that.

I haven't called around yet because I wanted to see if it was worth it based upon what others are paying. Also, I don't know how Lexus will react to the idea of opting out of some services, but when I had a VW, the dealership wasn't willing to lower the price just because I decided not to have everything that they recommended done on the car.

I know that I have options, but I still would like to know what CL members are paying for this service.

When it was time, I didn't want to bring the IS in for the 15k servicing because mainly I can do pretty much all the listed maintance myself and two I don't really trust someone else working on my baby. However after talking with my wife, we figure it was safer to bring it in at least one time, in case we ever need warranty work later down the line. That way they don't have an excuse as to say I never took care of the car.
The price they quoted you is about the same as what I paid for at my dealership. You can take a look at how they itemize it:

One more thing, make sure they don't add in the tire rotation service because that itself will add another 100 hundred into the cost. Our cars don't need to be rotated since it's staggered.

My 15k at Lexus Of Glendale was just over 180.00. I just told them I needed 15k service and that's the price they quoted me and the price I paid. I didn't tell them to remove anything so I think the price you got from Valencia is kinda high.

I checked 2 different dealerships up here in Norcal and I got 2 very different quotes. Stevens Creek Lexus quoted me about $288 for the 15k service (which looks to be about the average), however Putnam Lexus in Redwood City quoted $595 for the 15k service! I even asked them to list out the things they were going to do and it was the exact same as Stevens Creek. I called them out and asked why they were charging twice as much as other dealerships and basically got a BS answer about how this was a price estimate and it could be cheaper if I brought it in. Hmm, thanks, but no thanks.

I think I may just end up taking my car to the local Toyota dealership for my 15k. The Toyota dealership is charging $175 for the 15k service (which is still a rip since it is mostly just an oil change) but hey, i'm not that mechanically inclined and it's a hundred bucks less.

I can't believe the swings in price. We have a Toyota dealership up here, so I may give them a call.....as well as Lexus of Glendale.

So it looks like your quote was pretty average. Curious as to what my local dealership will charge me for 15K . It'll be over a year and a half until I find out since I don't rack up many miles. Better start saving now!!

I say DIY

Save money, and know that quality work is going into the car.

Ive never let any dealers touch my car. Except for recalls.

Surprisingly, it does seem that way.

We racked up a quick 10K on the car during the first 3 months of ownership. Ever since then it has pretty much been an airport parking lot queen with about 50 - 100 miles per week (of course it is always parked in a covered lot with door protecting mats).

What is the 80W90 gear oil for in a 15k service ?????? (invoice pic above)

Just ask for an oil change and write down in your book, manually inspected tires, pressure, brakes, steering compnents, get your own cabin air filter and air filter and change them yourself and keep the receipts for the parts. Done.
