Worse than rock chips would be the possible leaking of fluids(especially brake fluid) from vehicles being transported above if your car is on the first row.Older cars are transported too.
Closed carrier is the only way to go,IMO.

875? What is this, bob's trucking co?

I paid to ship my car from san francisco to san antonio, tx. $1800, company paid. I suspect it was even more when I went from cincinnati to sf.

read previous posts...

i agree, that's a great price and congrats on your soon purchase.

definitely pay the extra and get the closed carrier. with the weather and long distance, you don't want to see any chips, bird poop, acid rain, salt rust, etc... on the car when you receive it.

Default I'm getting kind of worried now

I'm getting kind of worried now. Well, the 875 was what a previous member paid for shipping. The company was called d2d transport (i think the link is http://www.d2dtransport.com/quote.asp). I think a closed carrier might be pretty expensive. I'll search around for prices. Thanks guys for all your support. I'll be a soon CLer.

May I suggest asking the dealership where you are buying the car from for a referal.
Every dealership has a relationship with a good local trucking company. They have a lot more experience with trucking than we do.

Thanks asiangirl. I'll definitely ask the dealership for a referral to see if they can give me a good price quote.

Hmm.....while shopping for a car during Christmas I had no problem getting dealership prices. I wasn't even asking for quotes. I just was asking if they had the car and color in stock(Which was a Honda Si). But, instead I fell in love with my IS when i first stepped onto the Lexus dealer lot. I couldn't ask or shop around for an IS quote due to the fact that I live in Hawaii and we only got one Lexus dealer here. But I find that kinda weird. I mean isn't that the reason why you go out and price shopping before you buy a car?!
