Default Upgrading ML Subwoofer

I am getting a 2007 Black IS 350 with the ML audio system. I would like to upgrade the subwoofer. My goal is not to get the maximum volume
and impress the neighbour but instead like to get deep solid rich bass because I listen to mostly Dance and Pop. I would like the subwoofer take as little trunk space as possible.

From what I have gathered, I would like

1. Subwoofer = JL 10" 10v2
2. AMP = don't know - want value
3. Box = customerized to fit on the side of the trunk.

Anyone who has done this please tell - spec, cost, experience.
I would like to know if I can install it myself or do I need a professional (cost?). How much this will cost where I can buy it (I am from Canada) from the cheap. I want "value" for the purchase. Any recommendations?

Yeah same. If you haven't heard it yet I suggest you do. If it's not up to your standards then go for a new subwoofer. I'm happy with my bass output and I don't even have the ML System.

When you say "upgrade" do you mean "add to" the existing system, or replace the stock open-air 8" driver?

I think you will be very impressed with the ML system. I've spent thousands "upgrading" stereos in other cars I've owned, and can't see any reason for doing that with the ML. I bet you will find that it has more than enough quality bass to suit your musical taste.

Removing the current subwoofer and adding a JL Audio 10w3 v2, with an amp and special box that fits the side of the trunk.

I'm not impressed with my ML system. Subwoofer is weak, it blows out easily. So many CL members here have the same problem.

The ML sub is fine when it's not blown. I'm on my second.

From everything I have read the ML is an excellent audio system but there is not much review about the Subwoofer. I when to the dealership and sat in an IS 350 and listen to the ML and was not impress by the bass, it seems weaker than my standard 2005 Camry LE, maybe it was not setup properly.

My previous car had a stereo system that was all alpine in-cabin (6.5" seperates in the doors, 6x9s in the back, alpine CD/MP3 head unit) with an Alpine amp running that stuff... and then two 10" JL subs running off a JL amp.

When I ordered my IS350 with the ML system I had planned to add a sub and amp (likely JL) to it.

I've had it a little over 3 months now and have made no moves to upgrade it after actually having gotten to listen to it. It's honestly fine the way it is and I'd be spending close to a grand for not much improvement IMHO.

If you listen to a lot of hip-hop your opinion might be different.... but Baby Got Back sounds just fine on the stock ML setup to me

When you say "impress" your neighbor, do you mean a loud system that they can hear from outside the car? If so, you will be disappointed with one 10" in a small enclosure. I have a 10" Kicker L7 in a large sized ported box running 800 watts mono. It sounds great in the car, but not much for the world to hear. I would contribute it to the steel firewall between the back seat and cabin and the tight fit and finish of lexus.
