Modding your car is one of those things that makes sense and makes no sense depends who you ask. My thought on it is this I like the look of a lowered car with nice wheels but on the other hand I dont want my car to feel like crap. At this point I cant feel any major negative changes from my stock setup. The ride is excellentin my opinion and the car handles way better than stock to me is well worth it.

Many of the 19'', 20'' look better than OEM for sure, just makes sense to make sure it rides almost as good and you get a weight savings ($$$).

sirCharles-- your logic is sound... But mods like wheels, suspension, tints, spoilers, etc. are visceral and emotional; most logic goes out the window.
And personally, I'm OK with that. I've seen some striking 19s on this forum that I could easily go for lookswise, but I am unwilling to give up the wonderful balance of ride quality/handling/aesthetics that the OEM 18s give me on my 350.

But like you said, the wonderful balance of ride quality/handling/aesthetic of the OEM setup, why pay alot to give that up.
and after getting great summer tires, balance/align on OEM setup my ride quality is near perfect. It feels like the day I left the lot.
