Sucks but that is the risk that you take when changing out stock parts. I hear you that they try to blame it on everything aftermarket but it does sound like a legit theory.

If an SRI is causing a lean condition, then something would have to be allowing air to bypass the MAF sensor. A loose or even removed air filter will NOT do this. What could do this would be a loose MAF sensor, disconnected breather hose (between the MAF and throttle body), or a loose fitting between the throttle body and intake pipe. If your dealer is saying that only the filter was loose, then they are feeding you a line of crap.

I suspect that either you or your service writer is just doing a poor job describing the real problem, and it is just a loose intake pipe. If that's the case, then $95 is a fair price.

IMO, you have to pay to play sometimes. You wanna mod your car? If something comes up, you gotta be willing to pay for the fix.

Ended up paying the $95 and not saying a word. Thanks for the eye-opening words everyone. I guess I was just steamed and didn't want to see the reality of things.

i wouldn't pay..... but then again i wouldn't have brought it into the dealership with an air intake either.
