im getting really frustrated, i keep trying to find a set of dunlop sp sportmaxx 255/40/18 (rear stock 06 IS350), to no avail. it seems that there's a "national backorder" or something; i've read a couple of threads of other members hearing the same thing. anyway, i really have no idea what i should do, ive been considering running a set of different tires for the rear but i'm quite certain i would face some unwanted consequences. also, i don't feel like buying 4 new tires when i just got the two front ones. anyone have any suggestions? my times running out, my back tires are getting closer and closer to the threads

you have the 350 right? so it is a RWD one.. it shouldn't be a problem to have 2 different kind of tires on the front and back. as long as you replace a pair.

do not get dunlops again, read some reviews they are junk and cost a lot, not a bang for your buck at all. you can get two different tires it won't hurt the car, but i would replace all four with a far superior tire that will not wear as fast and give you a lot more grip and performance and sometimes at a cheaper price. tirerack.com

I agree, the michelins are a really good tire. But if you don't want to buy four new tires, I would buy a different set of Dunlops or at least a tread pattern that is the same.

The backs won't make that much of a difference. I'd run different brands front and back if I can get an improvement. Look at the Pirelli Pzero set. Two completely different tires for the front and back.

there are better tires for the same price as the OEM tires, look elsewhere besides sportmaxx. RE050 pole positions and goodyear F1 GS-D3 are nearly the same price as OEM

okay I'm also getting ready to get a new set of tires to replace the stock Dunlops. I actually have no complaints about them. They've lasted me 2 yrs and 22k miles. They'll probably last another 5 or 8k. I was planning on getting just another set of the same but what are the alternatives? I don't want heavier tires since I already have heavier than stock ISP's, or tires that wear out faster, or tires that are more noisy.

The dunlops on my IS 250 were excellent and lasted 35k miles, but unfortunately when I tried to replace them about a year ago dunlops were hard to get then

Bridgestone RE050 pole positions and goodyear F1 GS-D3s are far superior performing to the bridgestone RE050 and dunlop Sportmaxx that come on the car OEM and are nearly the same price. Assuming you are using the 18" summer tires.

been reading some reviews of other tires on tire rack and all these supposedly better tires maybe be better for performance but they seem to be all noisier. The Dunlops seem to be the best balance of performance, quietness, and comfort. Something I think is important in a lex.
