A good rule of thumb is to expect about 100 times the treadwear rating in mileage with average driving style. In other words, 420 treadwear = 42000 miles. Some manufacturers are better than others, but NONE OF THEM ARE THE SAME. In treadwear terms, Goodyear's 420 does not equal Michelin's 420, etc.

Thanks for all the replies, I think I'll give it a go on the sumitomo htr iii. One last question, I'm running 18 in work wheels, 8.5/9.5 with 225/265 right now. Will 235/275 be ok?

i'm not sure that tad bit extra really gives you any benefit... you might as well have the width of the tire fit right... why buy a wider tire than your rim.

personally i just think its asking for more tire roll.

The 275/40/18 tire is actually cheaper then the 265/35/18 and on top of that I figured with the 40 sidewall, it should feel a bit softer. Just curious whether it would be a good fit, or would it be too wide for the 9.5 wheel.

I have 10K miles on a set of Avon M550 all-seasons and they are working and wearing great! Best bang for the buck.

The Dunlap SP Sport 5000m that came on my IS250 AWD handle poorly in the snow. If I put the ECT Snow setting on, it's better, but overall these stock tires blow.

I'll run these down into the ground before I buy the new F1s though. Tires are just too pricey.
