Default Painted front grill

I searched around and found nothing on how to paint the front grill. I want to paint mine black. For the people who have theirs painted, did you do it yourself or take it somewhere. Was it easy or cheap.

I did mine my self what i did was i sanded it down with 600 grit then put primer (4 coats), then primer sealer (3 coats), then paint (5 coats,I used import paint that i got from a local performance store which has served me well in the past) then after that i waited about a hour and then cleared it (7 coats).

(In between primer coats i wet sanded with 2000 grit)
After you put the clear on wait 48 hours then use polishing compound to remove any orange peel (there shouldnt be much if you did it right)

Total cost about $30....

Its not really that bad takes some time but most of it is waiting for the previous coat to dry. In all its about 3 hours but its only takes 20 min in reality if you dont count drying time.

They might but make sure you use a paint that is (Acrylic Lacquer). NOT (Acrylic Enamel). Use the same brand of paints so that they are compatible I used Dupli-Color, there are diffrenet grades of paint I used the Higher one because it last longer and doesnt chip as easy it cost $2 more a can.

When you sand it with 600 grit do it lightly so you dont make lines that you can feel, just sand a little so the primer has something to stick to. The chrome doesnt come off, it almost looks like the whole grille is made out of it. But make sure you use primer sealer and wet sand with 2000 grit thats what makes the paint smooth. But make sure you wait 10 between coats before sanding, then rinse with water to remove the dust.

i bought the dupli-color and primer, i didnt see what kind of paint it was but if it is wrong ill go exchange it. Also on the back it says to use #200 sandpaper. The primer i got was sandable. i still have to go buy the Clear coat because i couldnt find it. Is it called Acrylic something..

It says it on the back (Acrylic Lacquer in small writing), I used #600 grit because its leaves less lines, I think #200 is way to course for what your using it for.
