question about well known NAV HACK
Hello..
I am new to here, but I have a question about the nav hack...
from this link...->https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=193739
I will be appriciated if you can answer for me
My question is...
when the vehicle is in the motion, and the nav depends on the GPS signal... but when the nav loses all GPS signals, it depends on the steering wheel's motion and the speed pulse, so that Nav shows you a accurate position of your vehicle...
does this mod eliminates this feature?
what are the pros and cons?
thanks in advance!

Everything works!! One mod is with no switch that allows you access to all folders while in motion. the other option is to install a switch, this will allow you a few minutes to enter a destination while in motion.
Pro = you have all these features that you should from the factory!!!
you need to feel comfortable with this mod and that it will benefit you, Its not that hard to do and if you follow the steps that Technique has you will be fine. Im happy i took the time for it.

I second that motion. Just do it. At first I was hesitant to start cutting wires and ripping apart my car but dayam... a couple months into having the car and it's totally ripped apart and mods are happenin left and right and so just do it. It'll make your life a lot easier as well.

I am familiar with 2Gen Isx50
So I already know how to take them out...
And the thing is... if I do this mod, I will lose one feature that gets activated
when I lose all the GPS signals..
so I am going to use this following diagram
this diagram is to do the Mod with two switches, so that it can switch off the
entire mod so it works normal like OEM, and switch on to use full features
as if it was stopped...
and I have a dead wiring harness sitting at home...
so I think I will just removed the entire pin and wire for while(silver striped), pink, and the red and replace those with my dead ones..
and tape them...
just in case I need to go and get new nav display later in the future under warranty...
someone in here modded without cutting and had a dead pixel, so he got new display unit covered under warranty=)
and if the volume symptom appears... this safe mod will help me out
what do you guys think?

When operating w/o a valid GPS signal, the unit doesn't use steering wheel motion to determine heading, it uses a gyroscope, also known as a yaw sensor.

what is gyroscope?...
and the thing was that when I watched the Navigation CD manual... on the PC..
it told me that it uses the steering wheel's degree of rotations and speed signal to display the position as accurate as possible...

its been about a month and a half for me and i have had no issues and others have had longer then me. i didnt watch any CD so i cant say what is on there. but the fact is it works. i can tell you if one doesnt have connection to the other then you have what they call a "jumpy" navi. i wish i could explain it better but it sounds like Bichon knows the specifics.
I think you are better to just follow the directions and do it as in the nav hack. you can always put it back to "normal' or "factory" mode by putting the pins back in.
Yes someone did do that and i think it was a pain to push the pins out. just cutt the wires and leave room for error or putting it back if you choose.
you will be very happy!

passnu2...
so i guess you've done the hack and yours is not jumpy..right?...
then... do you have "ANY" little movement in a "VERY" small distance on the display?
like... when you are driving w/ destination set... you need to exit the hwy
but you don't... then does it assume that you are exiting?....
or does it show you that you are not exiting instantly?

@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@
I just confirmed that the Navigation system uses "speed sensor", "yaw sensor", and also "steering wheel sensor".
I just talked to one of the Lexus guys and I heard the same thing from nav owner's manual.
So manybe I will use the diagram above that I made for myself to switch the
mod on/off.
But I am not going to make a switch for speed sensor for entering destination..
maybe...maybe not...

Also called a yaw sensor, it's a chip that accurately measures rotation.
It's a key component of the stability control system. Steering wheel motion sensor tells the computer how much you wanted the car to turn, the yaw sensor tells it how much it actually did turn, and if the two are not the same, the car is skidding (understeering or oversteering), and the stability control system decides whether to take action - such as reducing engine power or braking one or more wheels to correct the skid.
