Talking Escort x50 hardwire mute button placement

so i finally gave in and bought the escort passport x50. only reason i gave in though is because i got a killer deal for the radar and the hardwire kit w/mute button. $200 dollars brand new from best buy (a good friend works there).

anyways on to the point of my thread.

with the hard wire kit you recieve a piece of velcro to attach the mute button somewhere on your car. i thought to myself hmm where am i going to place this that will be easy to access, not ugly and out of my way. so after 5 mins of thought i saw the perfect place!! right next to the coin holder. there are 2 empty squares spots that looked about the right size so the mute button could fit into it. after a few minutes of analyzing the panels i realized i could basically apply some force and pull them out and the square panels next to my rinky dink change holder came out.

needless to say i need to shave a little bit of the plastic from the inside of the panel inside the square to make it alittle more flush, as of right now half of the button fits in the coin holder, there are some plastic pieces in the back that held the original clip in place that i would think easy to be shaved off.... but for the time being i belive this is an awesome spot for the mute button on the radar. here are some pictures. and i moved my coin holder over to the middle slot. so it would look a tad better.

sorry if this is a repost i didnt see an topics on this so i figured i would share this.

Nice job dude. Those switch spots are the perfect place for about a zillion aftermarket ideas. To bad it wont fit in there and set flush with the edge. Nice job though, thanks for posting!

Not to go off topic, but they completely changed the door/fuel buttons on the 08 models!!!!

The 06's (and I'm assuming 07's) have them one above the other on the left side.

thanks!
im sure i could get it flush pretty easily. on the inside towards the back theres like 1/8 lips on each side of the panel and if you were to shave a little bit with a knife or something you would definately be able to push the mute box back further and get it flush.. just some effort.

my '07 looks just like the '08, so musta been the '06's that are different. Kinda sucks though cause I always open the trunk at the gas station!

I've held off in buying the direct connect cord because I couldn't decide on a decent mounting location. I suppose the way you've mounted it is ok, but my main problem with the direct connect is the shape of the button casing. I've installed it in numerous vehicles and the odd shape of the casing never lends to a decent installation. Either the velcro comes loose and the thing flops around or placement/accessibility is an issue.

I wish Escort would design a better one.

Thanks for sharing though. It's workable.

yeah the casing is definately lame. but it fits perfectly into that slot. the only problem of actually pushing the box back in is the little 1/8 pieces that stick out. but if you were to shave it or remove just a hair of it. the piece would most likely wedge in there for more of a flush fit. i definately would rather have this hardwire kit here. than the smart cord running down my dash to the cig lighter. i had it there for one nite and it drove me bonkers..

try it out. if anything you could return the hardwire kit.

yup. your not invincible and depending on the terrain. youll generally get an early enough warning to slow down.

suicidesam. i thought about placing it there. but i cant stand stuff on my dash let alone that blinding green light from the remote, im pretty much ocd. i already found a way to dilute that green light. so its not so blinding from the side. hahaha
