Default How can you check that the headlight turns?

Hello CL,

I am just curious to know how can you find out if the headlight actually turns. It's pretty difficult to tell when i'm actually driving. I know I have the HID and everytime I turn it on it does adjust up or down but i've never really noticed it turning in the direction I am turning.

On a stop or while parked, can I just turn the wheels and the lights should turn as well? Or does the car have to be in motion for it to move?

Thanks CL!

The "Adaptive" or AFS lighting is not available on the IS, I think just the RX and LS if I am not mistaken. The IS has the auto-leveler feature which adjust in order ot not blind uncoming traffic.

Stop and turn your wheel while the car is on?

The 2IS does have AFS if you got the stock HIDS.

I'm almost certain the IS has the AFS lighting as well. It is one of the main reasons I got the HID option.

It's super-obvious when driving on a twisty road on a foggy day. I've not noticed it at parking lot speeds.

You are mistaken. The IS with stock HIDs does have AFS. I forgot to mention in my earlier post that the feature can be disabled via the same controls used for the TPMS (switches left of steering wheel); the original poster should make sure that his isn't turned off.

Looks like the AFS is still a seperate option on top of the HID's based on the chart. That would be a great buy for that roughly $800 option. Factory HID's are always better for many reasons. First and foremost, the auto-leveler and in this case, the AFS. Secondly, the sheilding of the ballast that does not interfere with the radio recption while illuminated and last but not least, the reduction of a potential moisture leak. I stand corrected if the AFS is standard with the HID package for the IS. I wish I was able to get the HID's OEM. None were on the lot without Navi.

If your car has the AFS you will notice it while your driving... I miss mine when I put springs on my car the AFS light turned on and they haven't been working since...

BMWs move when at a stop and you turn the wheel. Ours have to be in motion for it to move. less obvious.

Though I am a fan of curiosity for curiosity's sake, I wouldn't recommend turning your steering wheel stop-to-stop when the car isn't moving, and definitely don't make a habit of it.

I'll check that out the next chance I get. It should be in the <o> control when the car is "on" position right?

That won't work. The AFS doesn't work when the car is stationary, and is speed sensitive. In other words, it turns the lights less at lower speeds, which makes sense.
