The stock front sill light on my 08 is 5" and the rear sill is 8", so you could trim the stock front sill and wire it up. But there may be factory frame you'd have to cut through. You'd have to see how the fronts are done.
Hilarious about the in-laws.
You must really be trying to impress them. I took out my front ashtray and put some of those individual Life Savers candies in there. Now I can slide the door back and offer, "candy, cigarette?" 
I think it would be cool to see the lights when I put my briefcase in the back footwell. I'd have to ask my service dept. how hard it'd be (and how expensive). That's a mod I'd like to see posted.
