i was going to my gf house and im on the 57n and all of a sudden after i switch lanes i hear a clunk. thought nothing of it.. i thought it was the sider markers but then all of a sudden my low tire light flashes and my car starts moving from side to side..i immediately pull over .... i happen to run over a really sharp object that tore up my rear left tire. .. the tear in my tire is 3 in long and very deep...i hope they take what ever that is on the freeway out.....i should be happy i wasnt hurt but all i can think of is my new tires with 6k on them...
and how long can i run on those ridiculous spare tires?
the manual says go under 50mph and at 60 psi..
but not how long can i use it for... i had to special order my tires and wont be in until 5-10 business days...Thats another thing no one carries 255 tires????but thats for another time and tread,,,

Ok, I would not do it again, it was poor judgement.
but I once was driving over 100MPh on that yellow spare donut racing on my way to discount tire to get it replaced. I was insane that day, but did not realize it until I looked at the odometer. It was actually drizzling a lil bit too.
The spare works fine

That happened to me last night, thank god the tire is still inflated. s for your situation, it is good that you were able to maintain control and pull off the road succesfully. I would not drive long with the spare and definitly do not attain higher speeds than 55mph. it is also bad for a drive axle to have a donut spare on for a prolonged period of time due to that particular axle spinning faster and could harm the differential.

When I first took my car for 5K service at the dealer, the rep said I got a nail in the passenger rear tire. The nail is at an angle that they can't patch up and I will need new tire. Lexus dealer said the new tire will cost me apprx. $290 for the high performance tire. To my surprise, I said no leave the nail intact and I'll find a tire shop elsewhere. I went to my local tire shop and they said they don't have that 255 tire size avail and will need to deliver from another shop from some miles away. At that time I decided to let the service tech take the nail out and see if it's possible to patch it up since I dont' want to waste few hundreds for nothing. After taking it out and examining it, he said it's possible to patch but too risky because it's at the edge of the tire and not the center of the tire. I had no choice but to get new tire from them for around $250 (don't remember exactly) including labor and fees...which is better deal than the dealer. Because the new tire was not avail that day, I had to run on the spare donut for 2 working days...of course running at a minimum speed even on freeway. I wouldn't risk myself going fast on that donut. I know it's uncomfortable running on it but think about safety issue.
