Default Road and Track IS350 Test numbers....

Just thought this would be nice to have handy for lots of people asking, "Can I take this car or that car".....

http://www.roadandtrack.com/assets/d...car_dp.pdf.pdf

0-60 4.9 seconds
1/4 mile 13.5@103.1

Not bad for a Lexus..lol....

By the way, the BMW 335 was 0-60 in 5 seconds and had an identical 1/4 mile....

I noticed this too, and found it strange because it's been my experience that c&d tends to get the best numbers....

Anyway, R&T really seems taken with the IS.

Yes, welcome to a few months ago...

Try to AVERAGE all mag times to get an accurate and fair number, not just quote best times (or quoting a competitions worst times).

The IS clearly at its best, is just a BEAST!!!

The problem with that is the first published R&T test shows a 0-60 in 6 seconds and a 1/4 mile time of about 14 seconds....they noted it was a hot day, but trust me all my Porsche buddies found THOSE numbers....when I said it did 0-60 in about 5 they laughed...then I showed them the revised numbers and their jaws dropped..lol...so you cant just average numbers...you gotta look at the test conditions, and compare similar conditions. The 335 test was actually a cooler day....so heat was not the reason....

Although I think they picked the 335 over it....they said it was more sporting and had a bigger interior...Its funny to me, they say its more sporting, but they didnt test one with a sports or x package which is more sporting...oh well...I love the IS, and its "non sporting" characteristics...lol...

I blame that on Lexus. You'll notice in 99% of the mag test that are done on the IS350, it is with loaded interior luxury editions. I may be mistaken but the mags don't usually have a pick of the litter of option types. They simply request a model type for testing from the manufacturer, sometimes revealing the specifics of the tests, and the manufacturer sends them a car. I still think Lexus needs to understand that most mag tests are done for performance #'s on these type cars, not necessarily how much or what types of equipment they can be loaded down with. Save that for the GS or 460's. They should be sending them sports or x package equiped cars. This will at least insure the best handling characteristics of a stock 350, and give it a more sporty look to compare.

Yeah, tell me about it. Lexus wants to play performance yet they make it so damn hard to find a 350 with the sport package (or any 350 for that matter). My salesguy said only 15% are 350's.

Yeah, I'm still not all that clear about how the IS (a few inches longer, if memory serves) can have less interior space than a 335 sedan.

Actually, I should say I understand how, but not so much the why....

If I recall, they said the IS has more trunk space....now to be fair, we are talking about like an inch more interior room overall, the IS has more front legroom, rear legroom is the same....

Could just be my imagination, but I seem to remember the e9x having significantly more room in the rear. Of course, I never spend much time back there.....

Those times and that trap speed are very special. Check out www.dragtimes.com for more real world numbers. Bone stock, complete with jack, spare, and tool kit, these cars are more like 13.6 - 13.7 at 101 mph. Maybe a base model without spare, jack, and tool kit might hit 103, but again, that's a pretty special car. Also, my car with lux, Nav, ML weighed in at 3620 with a half tank of gas. That's quite a bit heavier than the published number 3527.

Exactly! You need to test the cars with the same weather conditons, same day, same track, same driver. That's why this is such a good test http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do.../pageId=124138 As it compares the same conditions on the same day, track and driver:

BMW 335I
Performance:
0 - 30 (sec): 1.8
0 - 45 (sec): 3.2
0 - 60 (sec): 4.9
0 - 75 (sec): 7.2
1/4 Mile (sec @ mph): 13.4 @ 103.9

Lexus IS350
0 - 30 (sec): 2
0 - 45 (sec): 3.4
0 - 60 (sec): 5.2
0 - 75 (sec): 7.7
1/4 Mile (sec @ mph): 13.8 @ 101.2

In a later issue, R&T noted that the 6 second run was made with a pre-production model (besides the heat.)
