Default OEM HID problem

I just noticed yesterday that my drivers side OEM HID headlight is failing. It will turn on for about 2 seconds then go out. I need to take a day off to drive it to the Lexus dealer 2 hrs away and just looking for input from anyone, as I would hate to take the car to the dealership and then find out a part has to be ordered. Any help appreciated. My IS350 is a 06 and has 20,000 KM on it.

you should take it to the dealer.
same thing happen to me and they had to replace the whole headlamp.
I also asked them to change both because the color of light won't be the same if you just change one side.
hope this helps

Yes,

Get both HID bulbs replaced. After the burn in period, the color changes and at 20k on the car, you will notice it. Sounds like a bad ballast which is part of the whole composite assembly. Good thing for bumper to bumper, that part is over $700.

Happened to me a couple months ago. I took it in, they told me the bulb burned out, they changed just that one bulb and it's been good ever since. Both bulbs look the same even though they only changed the one bulb. No money out of pocket, covered under warranty. If you have changed the city lights, I would think about taking them out first before you go, just in case they give you a hassle about them.

I think the problem is the "Auto" mode. Sometimes it does not allow the HID to warm-up before shuting off. Shortens the life.
