I believe so...meaning it only shows for satellite stations..If you have sat it won't affect what shows for CD. On the Sat station there is an option on the Audio screen for 'Text' which shows the artist and song...It's limited to something like 15 characters...I guess they think if you own the CD you already know who it is..whereas on sat you may not know the facts

It's not just for Sat Radio. Some cd's have track names that can be read by the player. I haven't bought a cd in while so I don't know how common it is. Also if you burn a mp3 cd the track data should be available.

It depends on the CD. If the CD has track info data on it then it will show on the screen, if it doesn't then it will not.

Here is a couple of examples:
Linkin Park - Minutes to Midnight <----- contains track info
Serj Tankian - Elect the Dead <---- no track info

For commercially purchased CDs you need to look for the CD TEXT label on it... then it'll display.

Burn it yourself and you should get text if you tagged it correctly.

Here's the CD TEXT logo-

if it's a commercial CD it will probably not display the titles
but if you burn them, burn them as an MP3 CD and the titles will show up.
you have up to 28 character's for each song title.
if you burn them as an AUDIO CD title's will not show up, but the sound is a lil bit better

that's what i know

Well guys here is a wierd one....I have ML and Nav....I have an MP3 CD in disc 2, a regular audio CD in disc 3....If I get in the car and play disc 3, no titles. If I play disc 2 FIRST, then go to disc 3, the titles show up....If I eject disc 3, then go back to it, no titles. It seems my radio at least only shows titles SOMETIMES. I can do this over and over...I discovered it when I burned an aduio CD with CDtext (not an MP3 CD) and was shocked no info displayed....then I was driving and it went from the MP3 disc to the burned audio CD which NEVER displayed any info, and suddenly, the info was there!

If you are burning your own CD's in iTunes:

-Edit
-Preferences
-Click on "Advanced" tab
-Click on "Burning" tab
-Check off "Include CD Text"

This was addressed in a past thread and is based on the burning driver application used to make both cd's and mp3 cd's. I use Nero and it displays the track and title all the time. It is a "Track Recognition" checkbox in a cd burning program usually found under properties.

So why is it that I get titles SOMETIMES and not others? Cant be the burning software because its there....and yes iTunes burns will make the names show up if you have your preferences set correctly. I am wondering if I have a bad head unit or DVD changer....since mine works on some discs sometimes.

It is possible that the cd you are using either allows the "track recognition" or not. Maybe something to do with the composition of the plastic and the coating that stores the binary code. I don't think you have a processor issue in your head-unit, but you may want to ask the dealer anyway. I would first take two burnt cds with two different manufacturers and try them sepreately to potentially test this theory.
