lol, are u kidding me?
yes flooring it is bad for gas mileage but if u have a stock/automatic car then it shouldnt be a problem. if u have a manual 5/6 speed and u downshift in the wrong gear or dont shift before redline than yes it can be a problem

hehe, not bad at all.
half the time i downshift (MT) from 3rd to second, and RPMs hit the 4000 level. Feels good...i save on brakes. But i try not to downshift if its going to go past 5000 levels...not cause it'll damage my engine, cause its just not necessary really, its not like im a race car :P.
but do warm up your engine before going over 3000 levels.
its a lexus, let er riiiiiip.

lol so you basically drive like 1000 rpm above idle? man, i wonder how much horsepower you have in that rev range... you might as well be driving a beetle, not a lexus.

Most of the time I just drive in AT mode, hardly even hits 4k. However once in a while if I want to go a bit faster, i'll pop it over to Sport and down shift just so it will hit 5-6k.

If I hit this one stoplight before work and I'm at the head of the pack (no po-po obviously), then I gun it all the way through 2nd. It's a slight uphill and fairly straight. Since I'm "horsepower challenged" it's not like I'm going THAT fast =P

Everything in moderation comes to mind when I read this thread..
Higher revs equals more heat and more friction, more friction equals more wear and tear, so yes high revs when done in excess, can be bad for your car.

In addition, blowing the engine is bad for your engine...
RPMs below 3K ALWAYS until car has warmed up.... then have fun... of course, obeying all traffic laws at all times

it's better for an engine to be revved up and beaten on semi regularly. they're built with the redline where it is for a reason; they can handle it. if they couldn't handle it, lexus would have put the redline at 3k rpm. people who cruise all the time and never go wot to redline end up with carbon buildup and moisture never gets completely burned out of the oil.
