Default IS350 has AWESOME resale!!!

So, I was just curious and went to Carmax to see what they would offer for my 2006 IS350. They offered 28,000. Now my car is an 06 with 26,000 miles and I had it for over 2 years (28 months to be exact). In addition, I bought it for sticker price which was 38.5K and with tax, wheel insurance, and stuff it came out to a touch under 42K. So for 28 month usage with 26 K miles I paid a total of 14K. That's like 500/month at 12K a year with 0 down.

I don't think you can lease an IS350 for less than 500/month with 0 down - can you?

Well, given the excellent resale, great performance, nice features.....maybe he didn't pay enough?

But yes, you can always do better. For some, it's just not worth the time to haggle....

Well, maybe I paid too much - but keep in mind I had it for only 28 months not a typical 36 month and depreciation is greater initially and I also got it in end of 2005 when you couldn't bargain at all and had to pay full sticker for it. AND, mine was not a private party sell - but a trade-in value. Actually, Carmax offered me MORE than KBB excellent condition trade-in value.

how do u get that quote from carmax? call them or go to their website?

you generally have to take your car in to them, so they can inspect it

You go to their dealership and let them inspect and drive your car; it usually takes about a half an hour. You then get an offer that last something like a week or 200 miles.

I have an 07 and i was offered 36k a few months back. I think i have all options on my 350...i lease so its a wash for me to get out of my car this summer if i choose to. I am also less then 2 years into my lease! No taxes paid, no money down...May end up with a new rid after summer this year???

I guess you weren't shopping for an IS back in '05. I remember stopping by for a test drive of the new IS in October '05; the dealers had no unsold inventory, just an example of each model for test drives. You had zero bargaining power, since they could sell every IS they could get their hands on at full sticker. (Which is why I waited until the first week of December '05 to get mine)

Wow, that's great news on the quote for resale. Because it's a lot of money and my car is paid off , I think about it all the time.

I have an 06 350 with 27500 miles. Unfortunately, I was hit in the rear for about $750 worth of damage that appears on the carfax report. So I am sure mine value is lower.

But I really still love the car!
My next ride will be Toyota hybrid all the way.
$$$ talks louder nowadays!

The insanely high resale is the reason I bought my IS new. The IS wasn't worth buying used since there was barely any savings over what I could get it for new.

I have found that my resale value is sucking pretty hard right now. I think its the negative of buying it with every option there was including such things as a clear bra for $48K. My payoff is still $36000 even though I only have 10K miles on it. I wanted to trade it in on an IS-F last weekend and even the Lexus dealer told me that they couldn’t do anything with it and told me to private sell it. I live in an area that traditionally has huge resale values on imports. I have done extremely well on the last 10 Honda/Acuras that I sold, EXTREEMLY well.

This is the first car I have owned in the past 15 years (15 cars) that I have not been able to actually sell immediately.

Strange... I am planning on buying a new 2008 IS350 with a few packages and paying a max of $36000, tax and tags not included.

The invoice of the base is $30,000 I believe. I won't be paying a cent over invoice either..

So I think your $48k price was either not the best deal or way overboard on options.
