Default Calling All Radar Detectors in VA

Alright guys, Im thinking into buying a radar detector. I want to know what your setup is. Its illeagal in VA and i really dont want to get caught with it, but i also dont want to get tickets for speeding.

LIke i said i want to know what you guys have done. I was actually thinking of getting my front windshiled tinted but only the top part. Like a visor tint on top. And then hide the V1 behind it so no one could see it from outside.

My main concern is that i dont want cops notcing it from outside. thats all.

Guys from other states could also help me with this topics. Everbodys input is helpfull.

This is waht i am talking about, the visor tint. And then hide the detector begind that. One question will this harm the radar sense in any way??

In Virginia... I would go with a remote set-up. The more stealth the better.

The Solo S2 is a good choice. Can be quickly moved if needed, and has radar detector detection.

But, I will warn you: I believe that the police can confiscate your radar detector if caught in use. I would recommend just watching your speed.

There is ONLY one radar detector that is invisible to radar detector detectors, the Beltronics STi. See attached info, make sure you watch the demo video.

WOW, i didnt even know that the cops could detect people with radar detectors. Damn thank god i didnt pull the trigger on the V1. But the only reason i liked the V1 because it has directional arrows.

I guess i wont be getting the V1 one after all. Ill look into the belstronic.

So will the Visor tint harm the detectors detecting ability??

I am surprised that no one has given the usual lame advice that you shouldn't speed....

If I lived in your state I would just run my Beartracker BCT15. Almost every time 95%+ it alerts me when a state patrol car is close by via its mobile extender frequency monitoring. Many times, it also alerts me at times where they are not using radar or laser - when my V1 is silent. Also, you may be able to go with a laser jammer that can be turned off when it picks up laser use. The officer will not think anything is wrong if you slow down immediately after the alert and jam, then turn it off.

I currently live in California , and I have had a V1 for about 4 years now and I wouldn’t trade it for all the tea in China. I have it up high on front window and there is a thin strip of window tint across the top of the windshield, the tint doesn’t obstruct anything. Theie is a company that makes custom rearview mirrors for cars that have a built in V1 display with all the arrows. http://www.technik1.com/index2.php
You could always remote mount the detector somewhere in the car, like on the rear seat shelf and get the custom mirror made and then if you still get pulled over by the cops just have a toggle switch hooked up in the glove box or some place easily accessible and just turn the system off, the cops wont ever know.

I used to have the V1, and I was fine, but now VA state police, and so forth are using Spectre IV radar detector dectectors.. and those things are no joke. I stopped using mine cause it lead to a false sense of security. I noticed I was speeding a lot more, and it just got stupid for me. I sold mine to my then gf's brother. He was caught with it about 8 months after I sold it to him, by a laser in Arlington.

I heard that the STI is still the best thing out there in terms of staying under the radar. My best friend is going to get one, or so he says.

Anyway here is some more helpful advice for you, if you do get a radar:
1. I have already spotted 2 spectre equiped cars in the N. VA area.
2. My buddies said they have spotted 2 unmarked units with Spectre's in the Arlignton, and Fairfax area.

VA state troopers are vicious, as you probably already know. Also another helpful hint, don't get caught with one in FF County. You don't want to deal with the judges when they find out you have a radar.

And for the guy that said to turn your system off, that doesn't mean anything in VA. If you turn it off, you better hide that damn thing as well. Cause in VA, just having the detector in your car, even switched off, they are allowed to fine you for it and or confiscate the radar.

^^ Exactamundo.

Although, technically/legally, I think it can be visible, but must be outside your reach (and, obviously, not in use).

But any ways, is you friend in VA that is geting the STI. If that thing is undetectable then i might think about it/ But damn i dont know what to do now. i was actually saving mony for i now i dont know. LOL it was either the detector or an exhaust. i thought the detector was alot better.

In June i was caught speeding in MAryland. i was going 100 in 55 and the cop pulled me and Technique over. We both got $500 tickets. I guess he let me slide since he saw my graduatio tassle LOL. No pojnt shaven jsut pay ticket and take a diving class.
