I received the same Lexus questionaire on my '08. There was a separate paper asking about excessive brake dust and interference--both issues. I brought my car in today for its 1000 mile check up and they said they were going to change the brake pads. They could see the huge amount of dust. Apparently the computer still says 07s but early 08s must use the same dusty pads.

i also have an 08 IS, and hate the brake dust on the front. i should note that it dusts less frequently after the first ~1000 miles.

one stupid question, what is a TSIB?

i called my dealership in dallas the other day and they told me that the pads they replaced the 06-7 models with were put on the 08's so there is no TSIB and they said it should get better over time. I just cleaned my car today for the first time since getting it from the dealership, so i'll see how it goes. i'm at 3300 miles right now

they pratically told me the same thing, except for the part of the brake dust getting better over time. i asked for the service manager since we had a history and he said he would actually check into the part numbers of my current break pads.. etc... so when i make my appointment for my 5k oil change (in a few weeks) ill figure out whats what... but i dont see how it could have the upgraded pads.

everytime i wash the car i get sad cause i know my rims will be covered after 2 days.

I have difficulty believing that they changed it for '08. This TSIB is a pure aesthetic issue--it's not like the squeaks, rattles, etc, where there is a problem. The TSIB says "For those customers who find these characteristics [i.e., larger volume of brake dust] objectionable, an alternative brake pad material has been developed." Not everyone experiences the rattles--hence, the TSIB and not the recall. EVERYONE has the brake dust--it's not a defect, merely, it's how the brakes work. Look at any German car--tons of brake dust. Lexus is just trying to be customer friendly to those that may not care for this.

I know TSB to stand for "Technical Service Bulletin". Not sure what the "I" means (Information?).
