I am thinking of trading in my is350. It has nav, sport package, back up cam etc. pretty much everything except mark levinson. it has (gulp) 59k miles. Trade in value on nada is listed at 30,650 and on edmunds.com 28,700. What can I actually expect at a dealer? Thanks. oh, it also has new ps2's with less than 1k miles on them

i haven't decided that yet. i love my is and don't want to sell it but its more of a practicality thing. we just had our 4th child. i would like our nicest car to be something we can all enjoy together. so i need something that has 3rd row and NOT a minivan!

My suggestion: find a friend that works in the industry to look at a black book. Also, DO NOT MENTION THE TRADE when looking at the new car. Negotiate a price on the new car FIRST, then start talking about the trade.

i just traded my '06 is350 this past friday. the week before, i cleaned it up and got the trade-in appraisal value at carmax. they offered $27.5k. when i went back to lexus to deal.. i didn't mention i was going to trade until the very end. they appraised my car and the manager only wanted to give me $26k. i let em know last time when i traded in a vehicle they finally matched what carmax offered.. but the manager was literally a punk imo and said 'it is what it is'. he finally bumped up his offer to $27k.. i walked away and then i accepted that since it was close enough to what carmax offered. if you are able to privately sell the vehicle you may be able to get $28-29k with the mileage you have. mine only had 26.5k on the odo.

If you're trading it in to a dealership, the dealer is going to base it off of BLACK BOOK, and then add or subtract depending on condition of car, mood of sales manager, etc.

Also, kbb.com will get you close to your ultimate pricing...

KBB.com listed my base 250 as $24.5k trade-in excellent condition. CarMax offered $22k. My car had almost 50k miles on it. Look at KBB.com for a ball park and eventhough yours is in perfect condition like mine, they'll probably offer the "Good" level of pricing.
Sell Private Party, and you always have to consider the tax savings, at least in my state, that trade-in gets subtrated off the price of the car purchased at the same time for tax purposes. That's 7% on 28k if you were in my state. Good luck
I have a large family like you and impressed with the Audi Q7. Handles well for an SUV with 3rd seat. Wife wants a Range Rover Sport but no 3rd seat. The BMW 5 has a 3rd row, but I don't think humans can fit in it.

I'm thinking of selling my 06' IS350 too. It has only 1,235 miles on it. It's my weekend car. It's a sport package with all the available options. The mods are JDM fog lights, Stoptech 6 piston front and 4 piston rear brakes, Lexus HKS exhaust, Endless coilovers, Zenetti Stella chrome rims...19 front and 191/2 rear. Tom's rear lower skirt, Lexon roof spoiler, JDM side marking lights, Joe Z intake pipe, and Black Carbon Fiber overlays for the interior. I'm looking at the Nissan GT-R.
