I don't remember how much it was when it was last offered to me, but it was enough to **** me off. It seemed as rediculous as the other overcharges (undercoating, interior protectant, paint sealant, etc.) that are almost pure profit.

Yeah, my friend got the interior protectant....what a rip-off. The insides of her car looked nice for the first few days, but the shine wore off after people sat in the seats and touched different parts of the interior. The interior protectant is pretty much an over priced coat of leather/interior conditioner.

$500 with what loan amount and terms? If you roll in a $2000 negative equity from a previous loan (trade in), then finance for 7 years, I'd bet gap insurance would be $3K on a loaded IS350.

They "may" sell it to you for $3000...but GAP should only be around $500. I work at a car dealership and usually gap insurance is for those who do not have very much or no money down. Your negative equity situation should not affect the price of GAP insurance but it will affect your monthly payment depending on what term you choose.

If I was the bookie / hustler that wrote the terms of the gap insurance, then I would base my price on the actual gap. If the sucker was borrowing $35K on a $35K car, then I would charge $500 for a gap policy. If the sucker was borrowing $36K on a $35K car, then I would charge $1500 for a gap policy.

curse? there is a curse for every car, well basically just the bad drivers whom go down taking others with them. I heard of a 240sx curse, r32 curse. Every car on the road is vulenerable to an accident. Just drive defensively and safe. If something happens, thats what insurance is for. otherwise dont worry and enjoy your ride
