Default Safe to remove engine covers and keep them off?

So what's up with those plastic engine covers? Can I remove them and throw them into my garage? Or do those covers actually do something that I'm not aware of?

Yes, you can remove them but they keep your Engine looking fairly clean and also help in reducing noise pollution. I don't understand why it would bother you unless you want to keep the engine temperature a bit lower.

Have you noticed more engine noise since you've taken it off, like the direct injection noise, etc.? Curious.

i took the engine cover off. doesn't make a difference.

I took my engine covers off and almost blew up my car!!!!!!!! LOL no seriously though use your common sense, there is no need for them and they do nothing to shield the noise.

Yehpp..the injectors are way more noisy than what the engine covers can mask..

Toyota/Lexus engineers try to design things with function (I.E. rear factory fins of the Supra (93-98) allowed for the brakes to be ventilated). I would leave them on; you will reduce debris and dust negatively effecting parts. Although most engines are designed to be sealed and thus, sensors and harness are designed to keep out moisture with rubber grommets and o-rings, I would leave them on for that reason. Just added protection to be safe. I love the look IMO. All you have to do is throw some vinyl spray on it and you are good to go.

I thought that the covers where there for cooling the engine and how air flow goes thru the engine bay when they are on? I have had several places inform me of this. I like them on personally as I do not have a Turbo, Supercharger, or anything to show off under there plus like Brian said it keeps it cleaner. We see some nasty winters with salt and stuff so I wouldnt have it any other way.
