it is not really necessary, unless you want to do your LPS and get a free car wash. i don't know what else they did to the car...

I too changed my oil at 1000k just to remove potential debris from the engine breaking in. I have heard some cars like Acura do not recommend this because their is a special chemical(s) added to the oil that promotes the break-in and it is good to go until 5000k as a result. I feel better having done it at 1k just to be safe. I remembered that Nissan had the 1k oil change free of charge and was adamant about this. I am sure for the members that waited until 5k, they will be fine.

1k free service is more of an inspection basis and car wash. No free oil change is provided unless it is a dealer only thing. I didn't bother going to the dealer for it, did it myself. I guess Lexus provides it for good measure or to inspect any potential issues from manufacturing or transport.

Yes grasshopper, but sometimes, issues expose themselves early on are better rectified early on. Often times, it is a marketing tool to get the customer use to the service department.

Grasshoppa!! how did you know my nickname (people from old job use to call me that) lol.

I thought if issues arise early on, you should wait like a year and see if it goes away

Also the 1K service is for your License plate install. I told my dumb dealership not to drill holes for my front license plate b/c I don't want it. I also asked them not to wash my car because I don't want the swirls. Well guess what?...My front license plate was installed, and I got a car wash...ugh! It also took them an 1 1/2 to due this service. After I got my car back, I noticed one of the techs ruin the finish on the front passenger seat.

If I were you, just save yourself the time and have the license plates mailed to you by the dealer. IMO, the 1k service is worhtless.
