Default "Door" button on the overhead lighting area

I read the manual and it's not too clear.
What exactly does this "DOOR" button on the overhead lighting area do??

Its like the door button/switch on any other car.

Do you want the car to illuminate when you open the door or stay dark?

It activates the umm illumiated door sills on the side if you have them and umm lights up the dome lights for your exit and shuts off when you are out.

Doesn't it effect the lighting down by your feet/pedals too?

it just turns on the dome lights and side sills when you open the door. and i just noticed that if you turn the brightness switch off on the left of the steering wheel it turns off the ambient lighting.
