My leather is wearing out
#16
I am also beginning to think conditioning the leather is what casues the cracking. I have never conditioned my leather and have never had cracking on any of my cars. However, I have always used a clean damp rag to wipe off the seats everytime I clean the car (which is weekly). Seems to work.
No conditioner whether $5 or $100 soaks in leather like in the past.Let a drop of water fall on your seats and it will not absord due to the vinyl coating.

07 is250, cashmere interior. I've noticed that the leather finish/color around the seat edges is wearing off. I know it's from entry/exit, but i don't think it should be showing such signs of wear after only 20k miles. Would this be covered under warranty or is it just normal wear and tear. also noticed the beginning signs of cracking in the leather. I clean and condition the leather on a regular basis.

Conditioners do nothing for today's vinyl coated leather other than give the seats a matte shine, some UV protection and a great leather scent in many cases.

LOL. That sounds just like my polish grandparents houses in Scranton, Pa. They were also registered members of the "Vinyl Club".

I still use Zaino conditioner only because it has UV protection and a great leather scent.
I use 303 on all the vinyl.

Well given my car is only 5 months old, there is no cracking only slight creases. The car looks brand new! but i clean all my seats and my full interior monthly. So thats cleaning, conditioning.
Dont let the small things bug you, Just live with it or be extra carefull it will give you less headaches
I gotta pick up some 303 for the dash... that stuff is so expensive.

That is awesome, I thought I was the only one who was subjected to the vinyl on the couch torture as a kid visiting the Italian side of the family's house. Maybe we should all have a company perform a group buy and produce the plastic vinyl for our seats to reduce wear?

I sure did bother to read the OP's post. I stated my claim only to reflect on the fact that I do not have this issue with about 13k on my car and I was using the OEM conditioner/cleaner. I have a lot of experience with leather and leather care products. Some of the variables to consider are the manufacture process of this particular seat skin, color wear (if any), chemicals used the care for leather, clothing frequently worn (I.E. rough industrial clothing), if the vehicle is parked in direct sunlight and variant in temperature, etc.

My seat started to crease rather quickly but those creases haven't gotten any worse. After 2 years, they look almost brand new. I use a very diluted mixture of simple green and water to clean a couple/few times a year and I put a very light layer of conditioner once a year.
For all you guys cleaning and conditioning on a regular basis, make sure you don't use too much conditioner. It will soak into the leather through the perforations and you can end up creasing/stretching out the leather.
My commute is over 2 hours a day and I'm a portly 235 lbs.
