yeah, id say that's about right. however my car had the Lexus HKS exhaust preinstalled and was a dealer installed option next to the sticker price. it also had 96 miles on it, at 11:30PM. plus our salesperson was a woman and it was about that time of the month. we got a good deal.

Most of the OP's questions as to what is included in various packages, and their MSRP, can be found by spending five minutes on Lexus.com. And the dealer invoice prices can be found on many sites so you should be able to price the car you want. It may be different in CA, but the Sports Package is usually not found in dealer stock, nor is ML a real common item. Luxury Package is more easily found, but still not on that many IS's. Start checking dealers and see what they have in stock, and move on from there. X-Package is limited to three colors and doesn't have nearly the features that Sports or Luxury Packages have. It is not really a substitute for either of those packages.

my 3¢
I got mine from Longo... OTD 30,300 ... Leased at 375 a month 2k down(firstmonth fees, dp,taxes, etc) 12K a year 36 months... 20,100 buyout at lease end... Glacier frost mica IS250, Auto, with prefered package ( basically xenons, graphite coated 18's, etc). I got a pretty decent deal from what Ive seen, you just gotta work the system. Ive heard someone getting a manual from Longo for 350 a month and 2k down...for lease anyhow, but when it comes down to it, the mt has approx. the same clocked 0-60 and kills more gas on average... and tends to skimp on some cooler features... so so if your are in the IS250 ball park... you WANT 30 to 31K OTD... this year is the largest in sales decline in auto... even honda is discounting for the first time ever... if you're not one of the ones hurting, your actually lucky to take advantage. Furthermore, if you think about it, here in LA you can get this car for the cheapest in... pretty much the world.

For the OP, looks like many people have offered great advice. Also, you are in So Cal where many members have received great deals due to the competition. Maybe, west coast members get a better deal due to only paying the Trans Pacific shipping rather than the intermodal rail transit. Also, there are more Lexus dealers per area in So Cal which adds to negotiating power. Most dealers are receiving a 3-5% kickback per Lexus for every car sold and are more inclined to move inventory. I bet if you receive a "Buyers order" from one dealer and then take it to the dealer you know has the options you want, you should fare out rather good. This economy is pretty poor right now and you have that working toward your advantage. Most car manufacturers are reporting losses every month due to the economic situation. In any event, congrats on your upcoming purchase.
