And I can understand your rationale. It really depends on how you ride your car.
My brother hates my car's character. He won't let me borrow the ES for my IS.

I see why both cars do well together; most automakers don't want two entry-level cars, but both really provide different functions. The IS provides enough sport with all that luxury that the ES can provide. The ES just further enhances a luxurious ride with numbing ride quality.
You really can't go wrong with either car. You just have to find the one that fits your personality better.

I have an IS350, and my brother has an Ultra-Lux ES350.
And I can understand your rationale. It really depends on how you ride your car.

I'm going with the IS 350.
The ES UL is a great vehicle with plenty of goodies but I think I would get bored with it.
Now a fully equipped IS 350 will stay a powerful and fun car to drive.

To clarify I don't think the ES is a bad car on it's own merits. If you want comfortably sit more then 1 passenger and/or get 2 golf bags in the trunk it's a nice car. But for me, I find it hard to stay awake while driving it.
