I've seen various people report either being $50-100 cheaper, presumably just depending on exactly which model and which warranty they bought.

I'd recommend you get a quote from both, it's free. Then buy the cheaper one since it's the same item being sold.

I'm at 52K+ miles, so there is no way of me getting an extended warranty? If so, this sucks. I did not have the funds to buy the extended warranty when I was under 50K miles, hmmm I wonder about those 'warranty, car repair' television ads and if they really hold up. Even though I much prefer a warranty that Lexus honors, but I guess I missed that boat.

What does the lexus extended warranty not cover that one might expect it would?

I got a better price from Jerry Johnson at Midwest Toyota. He was cheaper than both Toby and Troy. You can contact him at 800-530-5789, cell 620-664-8844 or email jerryj@midwestsuperstore.com.

Plus, with an extended warranty, if you don't get your money's worth, then you had a trouble free experience (unless a lot of uncovered things go wrong).

Just thought I owed to to the community to admit that I changed my mind from my original position. In other words (don't tell my wife I said this).....
I Was Wrong

BY the way, Toby at Lexus of Shreveport hooked me up. the dum dum at my local dealer qutoed me 1500 over the phone at which point i raced down there and then he realized he was looking at HIS cost and he tried to charge me 2300. I said "excuse me," walked out, called toby and got it for like 1750 or something. I don't begrudge Toby the 250 or whatever he made on it. It's not about the "markup", it's about who gives you the best deal. Sorry, just a little shoutout for him. Pleasure to work with
Not to ressurect an old thread, but I thought I'd give a relevant update. I brought my car in for the most recent recall and while it was in, the dealer called and said that the timing chain cover was leaking oil but that it would be covered under my extended warranty. I said ok whatever fix it. i didn't realize that it was a $3300 job!

No joke, the invoice when I picked the car up listed $2100 for labor. I have no idea what was involved and I'm sure some of that is stealership markup that they're just charging back to Lexus, but my god that's a lot of coin. Anyway, 100% return on my investment over 3 years - I guess that's not so bad after all

Realistically though, if i I didn't have that warranty, I'm not sure I would have paid that much. I also think that leak must have been attributable to the fact that they took the engine apart for the cam gear grinding at startup TSB and would have fought on that, but it was nice to not have to fight!

You realize the invoice you see and they give you has no relation to the chargeback the dealership does with Lexus, right? It feels good to know that you made 100% return on your "extended warranty" coverage, and that invoice achieved exactly that.

Good point. Like i said, if they had presented me with an estimate for $3300, no way I would have gone for it - I was fairly certain there was some markup in it. But you make a good point that it probably went beyond that. i couldn't fathom how it was 20 hours worth of work...because it wasnt.
