Hey Robjo my vip lights are like your only operated by the swtich. Hey llamaboi do you know how to get them hooked up to the puddle lights? the guy who did mine could not figure it out.

Sorry i have no idea how/where its hooked up, i was busy drooling over issues of VIP Car/Wald, Weds, JP catalogue durring the install

I think Passnu might be able to help on that one. I think all you would have to do is wire up to your puddle lights. just open up the side mirror and check out the wires with a volt meter and see which one is hot when you get close to the car or just by the remote key.
