Default dealership etiquette

I called the parts department at a Lexus dealer in my state, inquiring about the replacement cost of a front lip. When I gave the part number, they said they didn't carry it? The person wasn't really jumping at the bit to try and find one for me.

So my question is, if I get an OEM lip online, should I feel bad taking it back to the dealership for them to put on? I just don't want to **** anybody off by doing this, but they weren't very helpful. Granite, they still are making money off the labor to put it on. How much should I expect to roughly pay for the installation?

Thanks!

There's nothing wrong with it, they are still charging you for the labor anyway...

I ordered my front and rear door sill plates and sports pedals from Sewell Lexus but had my local dealer to put them on for me. They were glad to help out.

By the way, are you in Atlanta? If you are I would go to Nalley instead of Hennesey...

I seem to have the same situation inquiring about getting a quote for the iPod interface installed (install only, I'd buy the part from Sewell). The dealerships here in Columbus, OH haven't been exactly helpful (messages not returned, etc).

I couldn't agree more with this statement.

Funny, I would have said just the opposite. Course I don't know about the service dept at Nalley. I walked out on the little **** head cheese ball sales manager at Roswell Nalley when I was shopping my 350.

LOL!!

I did the same thing but I was at the Hennesy Lexus on Peachtree Industrial... 3 days later I put down the deposit for my IS350 at the Roswell Nalley Lexus.

If you buy from the dealer they tend to give you a bit more leeway on the installation prices. Of course that's partially because they are making money off the part sale. And make sure to talk to multiple service consultants before going in. When I got my f-sport springs installed. I got a quote of $959 w/ alignment and another quote of $660 w/ alignment...from the same dealer...on the same day

Why would you feel bad? It's not like they will do it for free.

I got the same treatment, but from Hennessy. I guess it all depends on the day of the week and who you talk to at any particular dealership. I do have my car serviced at Nalley, and its always been a good experience...always friendly.

He probably should just try calling both and see what they offer to do for him.

just buy the OEM Kit front lip from Sewell for $149 and install it yourself by following the directions.

At that price it will be cheaper to replace it with a Kit lip than the OEM front lip.

^^ what he said. That GFX lip is a steal at $149 from Sewell. Go to the vendor sales on CL and get one.
