You did the right thing. The first instinct is acting with your conscience. The second thought is always with intent behind it. I commend you on your actions. :-)

I agree with the llama. If I am driving and I cannot swerve out of the way safely AND I recognize that it is not a person, I am plowing through it.
Instinct is self-preservation.

You might have saved a dog's life, which is a GREAT thing...but if you're a non-veggie and eat chicken or beef or fish or whatever, then I don't think this whole thing about KARMA makes sense...You're eating meat, a killed animal/bird, which IMO contradicts your actions (if you're a non-veggie)..
Karma is all about bringing balance.. you eat meat (a killed animal), then you're gonna pay for it somehow in some way, according to karma... i.e. if you believe in this stuff.. So all this stuff being discussed about saving a dog's life (again a GREAT thing), really is just a hypocrite thing, provided that you're a non-vegetarian..
You did a great job and for that you will get rewarded in the future in a BIG way.

similar story happend to me.. i was driving down stevens creek blvd by de anza.. theres a starbucks at the corner.. next thing i know i see a pitt running down the main road dragging a patio chair bouncing behind him zig zaging down the street. i chased the dog with my car (brand new RDX less than a week old) got in front of it and stopped and got out of the car to catch the dog.. dog takes a sharp left right before my car.. next thing i know the patio chair comes flying around and slammes into my car... minor scratches but at least i got the dog out of the main street before it got run over.

sorry but i think you did not do the right thing, after all it's an animal
and your life is more important than an animal's life.
that reminds me i had exactly the same situation happening to me last week with a small cat, as the road was narrow i did nothing at all and ran over the cat. and no regrets.
hope you get it fixed soon.

look ppl i didnt say 'run over dogs', all i said was human life is more important than a dogs/wrecking the car, in those situations its better to kill the dog/damage the car than risk injury to yourself... lets not turn this into a hate debate for you PETA lovers... to prove im not some monster heres something i think you'll all ENJOY
OP, you could have gotten killed or seriously injured! If it was me, I would have ran over the dog. Sorry!

Thanks for all your support guys. Much appreciated.
I just received preliminary estimate from the Lexus body shop. $12,355.
I guess not enough to get a right off? I still need to talk to my claims adjuster to see what he thinks.
I didn't take any pics because I don't want to keep any memory of this awful incident.

good for you. you did a great thing! although your car is banged up, you can live without a guilty conscious (even though it wasn't your fault). hope everything works out for you man!
