Hi,
I'm new to this forum, and trying to price a new Lexus IS 250 or ES 350 for my boss. On the BMW forums, users post the invoice price for both the car and the available options. I can't find the same posts on this site. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

I've been trying to price a base model RWD IS 250 w/automatic, and though Edmunds and KBB put its invoice/MSRP @ $28,900/$32k, the dealer says that this is incorrect. I've been told the IS 250 is only delivered with the premium package and preferred accessory package, which means the actual invoice/MSRP is $30615/$34359.
The dealer is offering me this car for $31,100. My question is two-fold: 1) Is this a good price (can I get better?) 2) Is it true the IS 250 base model MUST come with the premium package (thus, adding over $700 in extra features).

At the very least ask to see the sticker. Since the 250 RWD is in plentiful supply in CA you shouldn't have a problem doing as well or better than I did. Check the sticky threads for what people paid. Most people in Cali buying recently have done deals for $5K under MSRP or damn near invoice.

Lexus ships certain configurations to certain parts of the country.... so for example a southeast dealer -never- sees a sport package car.
But I still bought a sport package car from a southeast dealer, because I special ordered it that way.
You -can- get a completely base model with no options as a special order. You just aren't likely to find one sitting on a dealer lot premade.

I just purchased a 2008 GSM IS 250 with Nav, premium and X package, for $33,500 with only 9 miles - right off the boat!
PM if youre interested (Bay Area dealership) and I'll send you the dealership and salesman I worked with

Whenever a potential buyer brings up "invoice" price to negotiate a deal, the salesperson will always, and I mean ALWAYS tell you it's incorrect. They do that because they're trained to do it. They do it to get the upper hand on you. It psychologically places you in the position of error. It was your error and now that they've corrected you on it, you can get back to negotiating. (On false numbers, of course.) I know pretty much every trick these guys use, from the introductory handshake, to the parting handshake. Rest assured, the numbers on KBB and Edmunds are pretty accurate.
One last bit of advise, NEVER mention dealer hold-back as a negotiating tool, it generally doesn't work and the salesperson will begin to not like you real quick.
