Default Invoice prices

Hi,

I'm new to this forum, and trying to price a new Lexus IS 250 or ES 350 for my boss. On the BMW forums, users post the invoice price for both the car and the available options. I can't find the same posts on this site. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

I've been trying to price a base model RWD IS 250 w/automatic, and though Edmunds and KBB put its invoice/MSRP @ $28,900/$32k, the dealer says that this is incorrect. I've been told the IS 250 is only delivered with the premium package and preferred accessory package, which means the actual invoice/MSRP is $30615/$34359.

The dealer is offering me this car for $31,100. My question is two-fold: 1) Is this a good price (can I get better?) 2) Is it true the IS 250 base model MUST come with the premium package (thus, adding over $700 in extra features).

I think it's true every IS comes into the states with at least one package. I've never seen a base model here in Cali. And all the ones here have the minimal accessory package as part of it. Either way, your dealer should show you the invoice if you request to see it. If not, go somewhere else. You should always bargain from the invoice, not MSRP. The IS is currently selling for under invoice in competitive markets right now. I got mine for 750 under last February. Pit a few dealers againts each other, and you'll see the price drop. Good luck!

At the very least ask to see the sticker. Since the 250 RWD is in plentiful supply in CA you shouldn't have a problem doing as well or better than I did. Check the sticky threads for what people paid. Most people in Cali buying recently have done deals for $5K under MSRP or damn near invoice.

Lexus ships certain configurations to certain parts of the country.... so for example a southeast dealer -never- sees a sport package car.

But I still bought a sport package car from a southeast dealer, because I special ordered it that way.

You -can- get a completely base model with no options as a special order. You just aren't likely to find one sitting on a dealer lot premade.

PM if youre interested (Bay Area dealership) and I'll send you the dealership and salesman I worked with

(On false numbers, of course.) I know pretty much every trick these guys use, from the introductory handshake, to the parting handshake. Rest assured, the numbers on KBB and Edmunds are pretty accurate.
One last bit of advise, NEVER mention dealer hold-back as a negotiating tool, it generally doesn't work and the salesperson will begin to not like you real quick.

Why not? I don't give a hoot if the saleman likes me or not! The holdback may not be negotiable but it puts them in a worse position to negotiate anything over invoice when you point out they're still making money ($600-$800).

VERY good point. I have had this happen many times. And the entire process from when you first park your car and walk up to them, to leaving, is a planned process on their part to be in control of you. I have studying car-buying so much, my last buying experience I actually had complete control for the first time. The net result was $750 under invoice, which I am pretty proud of.
