The tires are definitely the biggest factor with road noise. Secondary to that is the suspension (stiffer bushings, springs, and shocks). After that is the sound deadening material in the car. The IS isn't a "sports car", but it is definitely more of a sports car than the ES, so they've tuned the ES much more for comfort.

It's definitely 90% tires. My car sounds like a 4 wheel drive with mud tires. I have 15k on them and a little life left so I'll ride it out but will not be getting this tire again. It seems to get worse every mile you put on them.

I think all tires will have some kind of noise. No tire is completely silent... Not even the PS2. It's all relative.

Sorry its not...I had them on my car! Its night and day difference in the noise I have! Trust me on this one. I am going to take my car to the dealer and also discount as I really think there is an issue with them. Dont recall them being that loud before.

But if that is how you feel that is fine. I am just sharing an honest, unbiased answer, since both have been on my car Why would I make this up

All-season tire are not only noiser because of their more open tread pattern but more prone to uneven tread wear, which is usually the cause of excessive tire noise. And I think we all agree the IS is very prone to uneven tread wear.

Tires will make a huge difference. My wife drives a Jeep Liberty that came with Goodyear Wranglers. They were extremely noisy. I changed them out with a set of Bridgestone Dueler A/Y Revo's and it is the difference of day and night. Little to non as far as tire noise. These factory OEM Bridgestone are just plain noisy. If you read in the reviews in tirerack.com you'll see it is consistent across the board as far as the complaints about noise with these tires. Didn't see to matter about make or model they were on. Not a bad tire overall, just way too noisy.

Just my $.02. High performance tires are louder as they wear. I haved my share of testing out tires on my Z28. The only tires i have not driven on are pirelli, nitto, conti and firestone.

IMO Michellin probably has the quietest tires around. Dunlops were great too except they wore too fast. Goodyear was great when they had gatorbacks. They have since sucked!

Normally, I would agree with you on the Goodyears..... my brother owns a business with a fleet of passenger cars, uses the Goodyear Assurance tire on them and convinced me to try them on my truck. They are really quiet and smooth. I know these are not at all performance tires, but as a long time Goodyear hater I am pleasantly surprised.

Best truck tire I've found for my Trooper is the Yokohama Geolandar HT-S. Wow! Way quieter and even wearing than anything I've tried, and I don't have to rotate them as often.
